Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun is an infusion solution that is used to supply fluid and salts into the body.It is administered via a venous drip and is used when the body needs fluids and salts.This can occur in various situations, such as a normal or slightly acidic acid-base balance, loss of water or salt, loss of blood, or when salts or certain medicines need to be dissolved or diluted.
Active ingredients and composition
The active ingredients in Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun are sodium chloride, sodium lactate solution, potassium chloride and calcium chloride dihydrate.The electrolyte concentrations are sodium 131 mmol/l, potassium 5.4 mmol/l, calcium 1.8 mmol/l, chloride 112 mmol/l and lactate 28 mmol/l.The other ingredient is water for injections.The theoretical osmolarity is 277 mOsm/l and the pH between 5.0 and 7.0.
Dosage and application
The dosage of Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun is determined by a doctor or medical professional according to the patient's fluid and electrolyte needs.Age, weight, clinical and physiological condition are taken into account.The maximum daily dose for adults and adolescents is up to 40 ml per kg body weight per day, although the infusion rate should generally not exceed 5 ml per kg body weight per day.Specific dosages apply to children depending on age.Special dosage instructions should be followed in elderly patients or patients with burns.
Side effects and precautions
Like all medicines, Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun should be kept out of the reach of children and not stored above 25°C.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the label.The containers are for single use only and should be discarded after use.The solution should only be used if it is clear and colorless and there is no visible damage to the container or closure.
