Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun is an infusion solution that is used to supply fluid and salts into the body.This solution is administered via a venous drip and is suitable in various situations, such as a normal or slightly acidic acid-base balance, loss of fluid or salt, loss of blood for short-term replacement or when certain medicines need to be dissolved or diluted.

Important notes

Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun must not be used if the utilization of lactate in the body is impaired or if there is water intoxication.In addition, the solution is not used to correct metabolically increased acid levels in the blood.Caution is advised in certain diseases or conditions, such as water loss accompanied by salt retention, increased blood levels of potassium, sodium, calcium or chloride, severe metabolic alkalosis, heart, liver, kidney or lung failure, peripheral edema, diseases with sodium or potassium retention, kidney stones or a high level of vitamin D in the blood.

Particular care is required when administering to children under three months of age and to patients with low blood sodium levels.During use, blood salt and lactate levels, acid-base balance and fluid balance are monitored.The solution may interact with other medicines, so the doctor should be informed about all medications taken.

Application

The dosage of Ringer's lactate according to Hartmann B. Braun is determined by the doctor according to the patient's fluid and electrolyte needs.Adults and adolescents receive a maximum of 40 ml per kg of body weight per day, while children receive different dosages depending on their age.Specific dosage instructions should be followed in elderly patients or patients with burns.

An overdose can lead to overhydration and disturbances of the fluid, salt and acid-base balance.In such cases, the doctor will initiate appropriate treatment.

Side effects

Side effects are unlikely as long as the medicine is used as directed.If side effects occur, they should be reported to the doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and not stored above 25°C.It may only be used if the solution is clear and colorless and the container shows no visible damage.Partially used containers should not be reconnected.

Ingredients

The active ingredients in 1000 ml of solution are sodium chloride (6.00 g), sodium lactate solution (6.24 g, equivalent to sodium lactate 3.12 g), potassium chloride (0.40 g) and calcium chloride dihydrate (0.27 g).The electrolyte concentrations are sodium 131 mmol/l, potassium 5.4 mmol/l, calcium 1.8 mmol/l, chloride 112 mmol/l and lactate 28 mmol/l.The other ingredient is water for injections.

The solution is available in various pack sizes, including glass bottles, polyethylene bottles and plastic bags with different contents and pack sizes.
