Information for use with the article Nicotinell 14 mg/24-hour patch: Nicotinell 14 mg/24-hour patch is a nicotine-containing transdermal patch to support smoking cessation. It is used to relieve nicotine withdrawal symptoms and to support smoking cessation in nicotine-dependent individuals. The patch should be applied to a healthy, hairless, dry and clean area of skin, preferably on the upper arm. There are three strengths of active ingredient: strong (21 mg), medium (14 mg) and light (7 mg). The dosage is based on previous smoking behaviour and is given gradually over 9-12 weeks to wean the body off nicotine. If necessary, the patch strength can be adjusted. The patch can also be used in combination with Nicotinell chewing gum 2 mg or Nicotinell lozenges 1 mg. The total duration of use of the patch is up to 3 months for monotherapy and up to 6 months for combination therapy. Nicotinell patches are not waterproof and should not be used on irritated or damaged skin. If there are signs of overdose, the patch should be removed and a doctor informed. The patch should be kept out of the reach of children and the expiry date should be observed.
