Instructions for use for Uralyt U granules, 280 g

Uralyt U Granules - For dissolving and preventing uric acid stones

Uralyt-U is a urolithiasis agent that is intended to either help dissolve uric acid stones, prevent them from forming again or facilitate their excretion. No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application include the dissolution of uric acid stones and metaphylaxis, i.e. the prevention of the new formation of calcium and uric acid stones or mixed stones made of calcium oxalate/uric acid or calcium oxalate/calcium phosphate. It should be used as part of an overall metaphylactic concept that includes, for example, diet and increased fluid intake.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

Each 2.5g scoop contains 2.4g of potassium sodium hydrogen citrate as the active ingredient. The other ingredients are lemon oil as a flavoring agent and yellow orange S (E 110) as a coloring agent.

Area of application

The preparation is an alkali citrate and is used to dissolve uric acid stones and to prevent the formation of new calcium and uric acid stones or mixed stones. Its use should be part of an overall metaphylactic concept that includes diet and increased fluid intake.

Contraindications

This preparation should not be used in acute or chronic kidney failure, on a low-salt diet ordered by a doctor, in severe acid-base balance disorders such as metabolic alkalosis or excessive blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia), as well as in urinary tract infections with urea-splitting bacteria. The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to the components of the preparation.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly as your doctor has told you.Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

To dissolve and prevent the formation of new uric acid stones, the recommended dose is 4 level measuring spoons (= 10 g granules) daily in 3 individual doses after meals.1 level measuring spoon should be taken in the morning and at lunchtime and 2 level measuring spoons should be taken in the evening after meals. The pH of fresh urine should be in the range of 6.2 to 6.8.If the pH value is below this range, the daily dose should be increased by half a level measuring spoon in the evening. For pH values above this range, the daily dose should be reduced by half a level measuring spoon in the evening. The correct dose is found when the pH value of the fresh urine is always within the specified range before taking the medication. To prevent uric acid stones, regular monitoring of the urine pH value is recommended.

To prevent the formation of calcium-containing kidney stones, the daily dose is 2 to 3 level measuring spoons (= 5 to 7.5 g granules) as a single evening dose.If the pH value is too low, 3 to 4.5 level measuring spoons (= 7.5 to 11.25 g granules) should be taken daily in 2 to 3 doses spread over the day after meals. The aim should be a pH value of 7.0, whereby the pH value should not fall below 6.2 and not exceed 7.4.The citrate and/or urine pH values should be checked regularly and the individual dose adjusted accordingly.

The treating doctor decides how long to take the medication. If the symptoms persist despite taking the preparation, you should consult a doctor. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.

If you have taken a larger amount than you should, an undesirable influence on metabolic-physiological parameters is not to be expected if the kidney function is sufficient. In the event of an overdose, hyperkalemia (potassium plasma level >5 mmol/l) can occur, especially if there is simultaneous hyperacidity (acidosis) or impaired kidney function.A possible overdose can be detected at any time by checking the urine pH range and corrected by reducing the dose.If necessary, medical advice should be sought.

Intake

The granules are dissolved in a glass of water and drunk.Immediately before each dose, a test strip of indicator paper is wetted with fresh urine. The color of the wet test strip is then compared to the color chart and the corresponding pH value is read under the matching color. The pH value found in this way and the number of measuring spoons of granules taken must be entered into the control calendar. The check-up calendar must be brought with you to every doctor's visit.

Patient information

Before starting therapy, conditions or Diseases that can promote the occurrence of urinary stones and that are amenable to targeted treatment should be excluded. Before the first use, the electrolytes in the serum should be determined and the kidney function should be checked. If renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is suspected, the acid-base status should also be checked. The maximum recommended daily dose of 11.25 g granules (4.5 level measuring spoons) should not be exceeded, particularly in older patients or patients with impaired kidney function or during simultaneous therapy with certain medications for high blood pressure or chronic pain. This corresponds to 1.86 g potassium and 1.09 g sodium, i.e. 47.5 mmol potassium and 47.5 mmol sodium.Interaction with the drugs mentioned can lead to hyperkalemia. The drug should be used with caution in patients with severe liver impairment.Treatment of children under 12 years of age is not recommended as there is insufficient experience for this age group. No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

Pregnancy

There are no sufficient data on use in pregnant or breastfeeding women.Animal studies provided no evidence of a teratogenic effect. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please ask your doctor before taking this medicine.
