Heparin-ratiopharm 180.000 gel is used for the supportive treatment of superficial phlebitis if this cannot be treated by external pressure. The gel contains the active substance heparin sodium. It inhibits blood clotting and is applied thinly to the affected skin area. The application period is usually 1-2 weeks. Side effects are rare and may include redness of the skin and itching. The gel must not be used if there is hypersensitivity to heparin or other ingredients, or if there are open wounds. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor or pharmacist before use. There are no known interactions with other medicines. The pack sizes of the gel are 100 g and 150 g.
