Folic acid-ratiopharm 5 mg tablets are used to treat folic acid deficiencies that cannot be corrected by diet. The tablets contain the active substance folic acid and are a vitamin preparation. Before taking the medicine, certain points should be observed. The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to folic acid or any of the other ingredients. In the case of anaemia due to impaired development of red blood cells (megaloblastic anaemia), it must be ensured that there is no vitamin B12 deficiency. In addition, the cause of megaloblastic anaemia should be clarified before taking the medicine. Further information on warnings and precautions can be found in the package leaflet. The recommended dosage for adults is 1-3 tablets of folic acid-ratiopharm 5 mg per day, depending on individual needs. The tablets are taken unchewed at mealtimes with some liquid. The duration of treatment depends on the extent of the folic acid deficiency and is determined by the doctor. In the event of an overdose, gastrointestinal disorders, sleep disturbances, agitation and depression may occur. Side effects may occur, such as allergic reactions, reddening of the skin, itching, tightening of the bronchial tubes, nausea or sleep disturbances. In case of adverse effects, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted. The medicinal product is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients and in case of anaemia with enlarged red blood cells. The pack contains 20, 50 or 100 tablets of folic acid-ratiopharm 5 mg. The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and protected from moisture and light.
