Isotonic saline solution 0.9% Bernburg

The isotonic saline solution 0.9% Bernburg is an electrolyte solution used for intravenous infusion.The active ingredient in this preparation is sodium chloride, which is contained in a concentration of 9.0 grams per 1000 milliliters of infusion solution.The solution consists of water for injections and is sterile and pyrogen-free.The pH is between 4.5 and 7.0 and the theoretical osmolarity is 309 mOsm/L.

This solution is used for fluid and electrolyte replacement in hypochloremic alkalosis, chloride losses, short-term intravascular volume replacement, hypotonic dehydration and isotonic dehydration.No prescription is required for this product.

Contraindications and precautions

The application is not suitable for overwatering conditions (hyperhydration conditions).Particular caution is required in cases of decreased blood potassium (hypokalemia), increased blood sodium (hypernatremia), increased blood chloride (hyperchloremia), and in diseases requiring restrictive sodium intake, such as heart failure, generalized edema, pulmonary edema, hypertension, eclampsia and severe renal insufficiency.

There are no concerns about its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.To date, there are no known interactions with other medicines.

Dosage and application

The dosage depends on the fluid and electrolyte requirements, which are usually 40 ml per kilogram of body mass per day or 2 mmol sodium per kilogram of body mass per day.The maximum infusion rate and maximum daily dose are determined by the clinical situation and individual needs.In hypertonic dehydration, excessive infusion rates should be avoided to prevent an increase in plasma osmolarity and plasma sodium concentration.

The solution is used for intravenous infusion.In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as overhydration, increased sodium and chloride content in the blood, hyperosmolarity and an acidotic metabolic state may occur.In such cases, the supply of the solution should be interrupted and accelerated elimination via the kidneys and a reduced supply of the corresponding electrolytes should be carried out.

Side effects and durability

Possible side effects include increased sodium and chloride content in the blood (hypernatremia, hyperchloremia).The solution should only be used in clear form and in intact containers.After the expiry date, the solution must no longer be used.Medicines should be kept out of the reach of children.

Instructions for use

Bags should be used unvented.For technical reasons, the polyethylene vial contains a residual volume of air.Pressure infusions with the plastic infusion bottle may only be carried out under controlled conditions to avoid the risk of air embolism.
