Dulcolax® NP drops are a laxative used for constipation and diseases that require easier bowel movements.The active ingredient sodium picosulfate develops its effect in the large intestine, where it is converted into its laxative form by the body's own bacteria.This has a two-fold effect: it increases the fluid content in the intestines and thus improves the consistency of the stool, and it stimulates the colon's natural movement, which relieves constipation quickly and effectively.

Constipation is a common problem that can have various causes, such as stress, changes in daily routine or diet.The hormonal system also plays a role, which is why women are often more affected than men.Dulcolax® NP drops are particularly suitable if an individual dosage is desired, as the drops can be adjusted within the dosage recommendation.The effect occurs after about 10 to 12 hours, which allows for predictable relief.

No prescription is required for this product.In addition to the active ingredient sodium picosulfate, Dulcolax® NP drops also contain excipients such as citric acid, sodium citrate, sorbitol, purified water and sodium benzoate.

Dulcolax® NP drops contain 7.5 mg sodium picosulfate per milliliter of solution.Other ingredients include citric acid, sodium citrate, sorbitol, purified water and sodium benzoate.

Contraindications

Dulcolax® NP drops should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, intestinal stricture, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal complaints such as appendicitis, severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting, acute inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, significant lack of fluid in the body or a rare congenital fructose intolerance.

Dosage

The usual single adult dose is 10 to 18 drops, equivalent to 5 to 10 mg of sodium picosulfate.Children aged 4 and over take 5 to 9 drops, which corresponds to 2.5 to 5 mg of sodium picosulfate.It is best taken in the evening, with or without liquid.The laxative effect usually occurs after 10 to 12 hours.

Patient information

Particular caution is required in the case of spontaneous, long-lasting complaints or symptoms such as blood in the stool or fever.In such cases, medical advice should be sought before taking.The preparation should not be taken daily or for long periods of time without a medical consultation.Symptoms may recur after discontinuation of the drug.The product should not be used in children under 4 years of age.

Pregnancy

There are no meaningful clinical studies on use during pregnancy.If possible, use during pregnancy should be avoided.The preparation can be used during breastfeeding as the active ingredient does not pass into breast milk.
