The active ingredient in Megalac Almasilat is almasilate.Each 10ml sachet contains 1.0g of almasilate, equivalent to 200mg of aluminum oxide and 300mg of magnesium oxide.The neutralization capacity is at least 11 mval.In addition, the product contains the following excipients: hyetellose, povidone K25, propylene glycol, saccharin sodium, sorbitol, purified water, 0.025 BE carbohydrates and caramel flavor.

Contraindications

Megalac Almasilat must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to Almasilat or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.The product should also not be used if the phosphate concentration in the blood is low (hypophosphatemia).In addition, it should not be used on children under 12 years of age as there is insufficient experience in this age group.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is 10 ml of Megalac Almasilate, which corresponds to one sachet, 4 times a day.The bags should be kneaded vigorously before taking.It should be taken undiluted 1 - 2 hours after meals and before going to bed.

The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity as well as the course of the disease.If the symptoms persist for longer than 2 weeks during treatment, you should consult a doctor.Poisoning is not known in the event of an overdose, but changes in stool behavior such as softening of stools and an increase in stool frequency may occur.Therapeutic measures are usually not necessary.If you forget to take it, stop taking it next time and continue treatment at the prescribed dose.Before you stop taking it, please talk to your doctor.

Patient information

Long-lasting and recurring stomach problems can be a sign of a serious illness.Treatment with Megalac Almasilate should therefore not last longer than 14 days without a medical examination.If tarry stools, blood in the stool or vomiting of blood occur, see a doctor immediately.Long-term use requires regular monitoring of aluminum serum levels, which should not exceed 40 µg/l.In patients with impaired kidney function and chronic intake of high doses, there is a possibility of poisoning due to increased levels of magnesium or aluminum in the blood.Long-term use of high doses and a low-phosphate diet can lead to phosphate depletion with the risk of bone softening (osteomalacia).The ability to drive and use machines is not affected.

Pregnancy

The benefit-risk ratio should be carefully considered before taking aluminum-containing antacids during pregnancy.The medicine should only be used for a short time during pregnancy to avoid exposing the child to aluminum.Aluminum compounds pass into breast milk, but there is no risk to the newborn as only very small amounts are absorbed.

Notes

This medicine contains 320 mg sorbitol per 10 ml. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Other

Some of the aluminum is absorbed and leads to an increase in the concentrations of aluminum in the blood and an increase in aluminum excretion via the kidneys.Aluminum levels remain below the toxic range and return to normal in 3-4 days after stopping taking the drug.A small portion of the magnesium is absorbed; the magnesium concentration in the blood usually remains unchanged through excretion via the kidneys.If kidney function is impaired and high amounts are consumed over the long term, an excess of magnesium can lead to magnesium poisoning and aluminum deposition, especially in the nerve and bone tissue. Aluminum levels should be checked regularly during long-term use and should not exceed 40 µg/l.If symptoms persist for a long time or recur more frequently, a serious illness such as a stomach ulcer or malignancy should be ruled out.In the case of stomach or small intestinal ulcers, an examination should be carried out for a specific pathogen (Helicobacter pylori) in order to carry out appropriate treatment if positive.
