Information for use on the article Megalac Almasilate 1 g/10 ml suspension caramel. The active substance is almasilate and is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, heartburn and acid-related stomach complaints. It should be avoided if there is hypersensitivity to almasilate or any of the other ingredients, and in hypophosphataemia. Megalac almasilate should not be used in children under 12 years of age. A doctor should be consulted in case of prolonged or recurrent stomach complaints. There may be interactions with other medicines, especially certain antibiotics and cardiac glycosides. Side effects may include gastrointestinal discomfort, silica stones in the kidney or urinary bladder and hypersensitivity reactions. It should be stored away from frost. The dosage for adolescents from 12 years and adults is 1 sachet 1-4 times daily 1-2 hours after meals and before bedtime. Prolonged use should only take place after medical consultation. Contraindications are hypersensitivity to the ingredients, phosphate deficiency and impaired kidney function. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medicinal product should only be used after consulting a doctor. Adverse effects may occur in the gastrointestinal tract with long-term use of high doses. The maximum number of packs per quarter may be limited.
