Rivanol solution 0.1% is an antiseptic used for topical application. The medicinal product contains the active substance ethacridine lactate monohydrate. It reduces the number of germs on the skin and can be used on wounds and ulcers. The usual dosage is to leave the undiluted solution to act locally for at least 30 minutes twice a day. The duration of application should not exceed seven days. Allergic reactions of the skin may occur, especially in combination with sunlight. Other possible side effects include swelling of the face, nettle-like rash, headache and mild cramps. The medicine should not be used if there is hypersensitivity to ethacridine lactate and other acridine derivatives. Application to the eye area is also not recommended. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not use the medicine. The solution should be stored away from light and inaccessible to children. After opening the bottle, it has a shelf life of three months. Contact with materials that may stain should be avoided. Interactions with other medicinal products are not known.
