Betaisodona® solution is a germicidal agent suitable for use on skin, mucous membranes and wounds.It contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine, which is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses and certain protozoa.The solution is ideal for use on mucous membranes and hard-to-reach areas, such as the mouth and throat, the nail bed or freshly pierced piercings.After consulting a doctor, the solution can also be used diluted for rinsing, washing and bathing.Betaisodona® solution is suitable for adults and children aged one year and over.

Areas of application

Betaisodona® solution is used once to disinfect the intact outer skin or to antiseptic the mucous membrane, for example before operations, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood samples and bladder catheterizations.In addition, the solution is used repeatedly and for a limited period of time for antiseptic wound treatment for pressure sores, lower leg ulcers, burns, infected and superinfected skin diseases and for surgical hand disinfection.

Mode of action

Betaisodona® solution contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine, which has a germicidal effect in diluted or undiluted form.Povidone-iodine is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses and certain protozoa.The natural golden-brown color of iodine indicates the effectiveness of the solution.If the color loses intensity, this means that the effectiveness is exhausted and the solution can be reapplied if necessary.

1 ml of the solution contains 100 mg of povidone-iodine with a content of 11 mg of available iodine.Other ingredients include citric acid, anhydrous, disodium hydrogen phosphate, glycerol, potassium iodate, sodium hydroxide, nonoxinol-9 and purified water.

Contraindications

The solution must not be used in the case of hyperthyroidism or another existing thyroid disease, in the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, during and until the end of radiation therapy with iodine or if such treatment is planned, as well as in the case of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients of the solution.

Dosage

The solution should always be used exactly as directed.The solution is used undiluted for skin disinfection or mucous membrane antisepsis.The exposure time is at least 1 minute to 10 minutes, depending on skin type and area of application.For surgical hand disinfection, the exposure time is 5 minutes.The solution is applied undiluted for antiseptic wound treatment and surface therapy of burn wounds.The solution can be diluted for rinses, washes and baths.The frequency and duration of use depends on the area of application.

Intake

The solution is intended for external use and can be used undiluted or in dilutions.Normal tap water or physiological saline solution is suitable for dilution.The dilutions should be freshly made and used quickly.The solution is applied to the area to be treated until completely wetted.The brown color of the solution indicates its effectiveness.If discoloration occurs, the solution should be reapplied.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using it if there is thyroid disease or goiter.In such cases, the solution should only be used over a long period of time and over large areas if the doctor has expressly instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended, attention should be paid to early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism.If used in the throat area, avoid swallowing.Elderly people and newborns/infants should only use the solution as directed by a doctor.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the solution should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner.In this case, a check of the child's thyroid function is necessary.Ingestion of the solution by the infant through the mouth must be avoided.
