Instructions for use for BETAISODONA Solution, 100 ml
Directions for use of the article Betaisodona solution Important information (compulsory data): Betaisodona solution. Active substance: povidone-iodine. Indications: For one-time disinfection of the intact outer skin or antisepsis of the mucous membrane, e.g. before operations, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood sampling and bladder catheterisation. For repeated, temporary antiseptic wound treatment, e.g. decubitus ulcers, leg ulcers, burns, infected and superinfected dermatoses. For surgical hand disinfection. For risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist! What is Betaisodona solution and what is it used for? Betaisodona solution is a germicidal agent (antiseptic) for use on skin, mucous membranes and wounds. Betaisodona solution is used once for disinfection of the intact outer skin or antisepsis of the mucous membrane such as before operations, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood sampling and bladder catheterisation. Betaisodona solution is used repeatedly, for a limited time, for antiseptic wound treatment (e.g. pressure ulcers, lower leg ulcers) in burns, infected and superinfected skin diseases and for surgical hand disinfection. How should Betaisodona solution be used? Always use Betaisodona Solution exactly as described in this leaflet or as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure. Betaisodona solution can be used once or several times a day. In case of repeated use, the frequency and duration of use depends on the area of application. The recommended dose is (unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor): Betaisodona solution is intended for external use undiluted and in dilutions. Normal tap water is suitable for dilution. If approximate isotonicity is desired, you can use physiological saline solution or Ringer's solution for dilution. The dilutions should always be prepared fresh and used as soon as possible. Use undiluted for: - skin disinfection or mucous membrane antisepsis (e.g. before surgical interventions, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood sampling, bladder catherisation) - surgical hand disinfection - antiseptic wound treatment - antiseptic surface therapy of burn wounds The following dilutions are recommended for: - irrigations in the context of wound treatment - antispetic washings - partial antiseptic baths - full antiseptic baths Apply Betaisodona solution to the area to be treated until it is completely wetted. The antiseptic film that forms when it dries can be easily washed off with water. The brown colouring of Betaisodona solution is a property of the preparation and indicates its effectiveness. Increasing discolouration indicates a decrease in the effectiveness of the preparation. Complete discolouration means that the product is no longer effective. If you notice extensive discolouration of the solution, you should reapply Betaisodona solution. For the preparation of antiseptic full baths, water should be let into the tub first and then the required amount of Betaisodona solution in order to avoid discolouration of the tub due to the development of iodine-containing vapours. Since iodine may be found as a yellow precipitate in the environment, immediate cleaning of the tub is recommended. The application should be continued as long as there are still signs of inflammation. If your symptoms have not improved after regular use for 2 to 5 days, or if symptoms recur after completion of treatment, please consult your doctor. Note: Betaisodona solution generally washes out of textiles and other materials with warm water and soap. In stubborn cases, ammonia (ammonia solution) or fixing salt (sodium thiosulphate) can help. Both are available in pharmacies or drugstores. If you have used a larger amount of Betaisodona Solution than you should, please contact your doctor, especially if you notice any of the symptoms listed in section 4. If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. How should Betaisodona solution be stored? Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the bottle label and on the carton after "EXP". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated. Do not store above 25 °C. After opening for the first time, you can use Betaisodona Solution until the end of the expiry date stated on the pack.
