Area of application

This product is used for the short-term treatment of heartburn and acid reflux in adults.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

The active ingredient omeprazole inhibits acid production in the stomach.The capsule's gastro-resistant coating protects the active ingredient and only releases it in the intestines.There, omeprazole blocks the so-called acid pumps in the cells of the stomach wall.The effects begin after about two hours and last for over 24 hours.Taking one capsule daily is usually sufficient.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each capsule contains 20 mg of omeprazole as the active ingredient.The other ingredients include sugar-starch pellets, poly(O-carboxylmethyl) starch sodium salt, sodium dodecyl sulfate, povidone (K 30), hypromellose phthalate, sucrose, hypromellose, mannitol (Ph.Eur), glycerol diacetate monoalkanoate, talc.The hard capsule consists of gelatin, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron(III)oxide (E 172), quinoline yellow (E 104) and indigo carmine (E 132).

Contraindications

The product must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients, if atazanavir is used at the same time, as well as in children and adolescents under 18 years of age and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Dosage

The recommended dose is one capsule daily.The capsule should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid.Dosing should continue until symptoms subside.If there is no improvement after two weeks, a doctor should be consulted.

Intake

It is recommended to take the capsules in the morning, either with food or on an empty stomach.The capsules should be swallowed whole with half a glass of water.They should not be chewed or crushed as they contain coated pellets that protect the active ingredient from stomach acid.The pellets release the active ingredient into the intestines, where it is absorbed by your body.

If there is difficulty swallowing the capsules, the capsule can be opened and the contents taken immediately with half a glass of water or an acidic fruit juice (e.g. apple, orange or pineapple) or applesauce.The mixture should be stirred immediately before drinking and then drunk immediately.The glass should then be carefully rinsed with half a glass of water and drunk.Milk or carbonated water should not be used.

Patient information

The medicine should not be taken for longer than 14 days without consulting a doctor.If the symptoms do not subside or worsen, you should see a doctor.The medicine can mask the signs of other diseases.If you have symptoms such as weight loss, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, vomiting of food or blood, black stools, severe or persistent diarrhea, previous stomach ulcers or gastrointestinal surgery, persistent heartburn or indigestion for more than four weeks, jaundice or severe liver disease, or new or recently changed symptoms, you should consult a doctor immediately if you are over 55 years of age.The medicine is not suitable for prevention.

The medicine is unlikely to affect the ability to drive or use machines.However, if you have side effects such as dizziness or visual disturbances, you should avoid it.

If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, you should consult a doctor or pharmacy before taking this medicine.The doctor will decide whether it is possible to take it during this time.The same applies to breastfeeding.

Notes

Due to its mode of action, the product is not suitable for providing immediate symptom relief.It should not be taken preventatively.
