Area of application

Omeprazole ratiopharm SK 20mg is used for the short-term treatment of heartburn and acid reflux in adults.Reflux, the backflow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus, can cause burning chest pain and a sour taste in the mouth.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

Omeprazole ratiopharm SK 20mg inhibits acid production in the stomach.The active ingredient omeprazole is protected by an enteric coating that allows it to pass through the stomach unchanged.The active ingredient is only released in the intestine, where it blocks the so-called acid pumps in the cells of the stomach wall.Due to its long-lasting effect, taking one capsule per day is sufficient.The effects begin after about two hours and last for over 24 hours.

One capsule of Omeprazole ratiopharm SK 20mg contains 20 mg of omeprazole.The other ingredients include sugar-starch pellets, poly(O-carboxylmethyl) starch, sodium salt, sodium dodecyl sulfate, povidone (K 30), hypromellose phthalate, sucrose, hypromellose, mannitol (Ph.Eur), glycerol diacetate monoalkanoate and talc.The hard capsule consists of gelatin, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron(III)oxide (E 172), quinoline yellow (E 104) and indigo carmine (E 132).

Contraindications

Omeprazole ratiopharm SK 20mg must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient or one of the other components of the drug, if you are using atazanavir at the same time, as well as in children and adolescents under 18 years of age and during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Dosage

The recommended dose of Omeprazole ratiopharm SK 20mg is one capsule daily.This dose should not be exceeded.The capsule is swallowed whole with sufficient liquid until the symptoms have subsided.If there is no improvement after two weeks, a doctor should be consulted.

Intake

It is recommended to take the capsules in the morning, either with food or on an empty stomach.The capsules should be swallowed whole with half a glass of water without chewing or crushing them.The capsules contain coated pellets that protect the active ingredient from stomach acid and only release it in the intestines.If you have difficulty swallowing, the capsule can be opened and the contents taken immediately with half a glass of water or an acidic fruit juice.The mixture should be stirred immediately before drinking and the glass then rinsed with water.
