Sepso J solution, 1000 ml

Instructions for use for Sepso J solution, 1000 ml

Areas of application

Sepso J solution is a disinfectant and antiseptic intended for use on skin, mucous membranes and wounds. It is used once to disinfect the external skin, oral mucosa, vagina, cervix and urethra. It can also be used repeatedly and for a limited period of time as an antiseptic for hand disinfection, bladder catheterization and for damaged skin such as pressure sores, leg ulcers, superficial wounds and burns.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Sepso J solution contains 104 mg povidone-iodine and 11.44 mg iodine per milliliter. The excipients include citric acid 1-water, disodium hydrogen phosphate 12-water, nonoxinol-9 and purified water.

Contraindications

Sepso J solution must not be used if you are allergic to iodine or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. Its use is also contraindicated if you have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or other existing thyroid diseases, the very rare chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, or if radiation therapy of the thyroid with iodine (radioiodine therapy) is planned or has been carried out until treatment has been completed.

Dosage and application

Sepso J solution is intended for external use undiluted and in dilutions. It should be applied to the area to be treated until completely wetted. The antiseptic film that forms when it dries can be easily washed off with water. The medicine is used undiluted for skin disinfection or antisepsis of the mucous membrane, for example before surgical procedures, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood samples or bladder catheterizations.

The exposure time is at least 1 minute for skin with few sebaceous glands and at least 10 minutes for skin rich in sebaceous glands. The skin should be kept moist with the undiluted preparation throughout the entire exposure time.During preoperative skin disinfection, puddle formation under the patient should be avoided in order to prevent possible skin irritation.

For hygienic hand disinfection, 3 ml of the solution is rubbed into the hands, followed by hand washing after an exposure time of 1 minute. For surgical hand disinfection, 2 x 5 ml of the solution are rubbed into the hands for an exposure time of 5 minutes, whereby the hands must be kept moist with the undiluted preparation throughout the entire exposure time.

For the antiseptic treatment of superficial wounds, including burn wounds, the solution is applied undiluted to the areas to be treated. For antiseptic rinses, the solution can be diluted, with recommended dilutions of 1:2 to 1:20 as a guideline.Normal tap water is suitable for dilution, and if approximate isotonicity is desired, physiological saline or Ringer's solution can be used. The dilutions should always be made fresh and used quickly.

The brown color of the solution is a property of the preparation and indicates its effectiveness.Extensive discoloration indicates exhaustion of effectiveness.

The frequency and duration of use depend on the indication at hand.Sepso J solution can be used once or several times a day.Wound treatment should be continued as long as there are still signs of infection or a clear risk of infection in the wound conditions. If the symptoms have not improved after several days of regular use or if symptoms recur after treatment has been completed, you should consult a doctor.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Sepso J solution. After thyroid disease or in the case of goiter, the medicine should only be used over a longer period of time and over large areas if the doctor has expressly instructed you to do so.Even after therapy has ended, attention should be paid to early symptoms of possible hyperthyroidism and, if necessary, thyroid function should be monitored.

If lithium therapy is used at the same time, regular use of the drug should be avoided. When disinfecting skin before surgical procedures or operations, avoid puddling under the patient to prevent possible skin irritation and skin burns.

In newborns and infants up to 6 months of age, the medicine should only be used on the express instructions of the doctor and in an extremely limited manner. In this case, monitoring of thyroid function is necessary and accidental ingestion of the drug by the infant by mouth must be avoided.

The risk of hyperthyroidism caused by iodine is increased in older people. You should therefore only use the medicine after consulting your doctor. In older patients with goiter or a particular predisposition to thyroid dysfunction, large-scale and long-term use should only be carried out on the express instructions of the doctor. If necessary, thyroid function should be monitored.

Sepso J solution has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
