Pancreatan 25,000 is a medicine used to treat digestive disorders caused by reduced or absent function of the pancreas. It contains pancreatic powder from pigs, also known as pancreatin, which aids digestion. The enzymes in pancreatin digest food as it passes through the intestines. It should be taken during or immediately after a meal or snack to mix thoroughly with food. The dosage depends on the severity of the disease, body weight, diet and the amount of fat in the stool. It can be used in children, adolescents and adults. The total daily dose should not exceed the recommended amount. Pancreatan should always be taken with sufficient liquid, either swallowed whole or the microfilm tablets can be carefully opened and taken unchewed if necessary. Storage should be away from heat and moisture and the medicine has a shelf life of 4 months after opening the pack. Side effects may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, flatulence, allergic reactions and skin rash. In case of overdose, a doctor should be consulted. The medicinal product is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients and acute inflammation of the pancreas.
