Instructions for use of the article Freka Clyss Enema Individually Packed: The Freka-Clyss® is a ready-to-use rectal enema pouch used for constipation and faecal congestion to avoid harmful and painful efforts at defecation. It enables an almost physiological emptying of the rectum and can also be used before births, operations, rectoscopies as well as before radiological examinations. The effect of Freka-Clyss® is based on a hypertonic solution that creates an osmotic pressure gradient between intestinal fluid and plasma. This causes more fluid to flow into the intestinal lumen, which fills and increases the pressure in the rectum and stimulates intestinal peristalsis in a physiological way. The enclosed 15 cm long insertion tube ensures a high penetration of the enema fluid. The flexibility of the tube and the rounded cone of the closure piece prevent injury to the intestinal mucosa. Defecation occurs within a few minutes. The composition of the Freka-Clyss® includes sodium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium monohydrogen phosphate, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and propyl p-hydroxybenzoate. It is important to note that Freka-Clyss® must not be used in infants, toddlers and children under 12 years of age as this may lead to serious complications.
