Description

Macrogol dura is a laxative used to treat chronic constipation.The main active ingredient, Macrogol 3350, has a purely physical effect and is not absorbed by the body.Macrogols have the ability to bind a lot of water.Therefore, Macrogol dura is taken together with water.This water, together with the macrogol, reaches the large intestine unhindered, where it softens the hardened stool and increases the stool volume.This makes it easier for the intestinal muscles to transport the stool to the rectum, where it is then excreted.

Active ingredients and ingredients

A sachet with 13.81 g of powder contains the following active ingredients: 13.121 g of macrogol 3350, 0.350 g of sodium chloride, 0.179 g of sodium bicarbonate and 0.046 g of potassium chloride.Other ingredients include saccharin sodium, sorbitol and flavors (orange, lemon-lime).

Contraindications

Macrogol dura must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to Macrogol 3350, sodium chloride, sodium hydrogen carbonate, potassium chloride or any of the other ingredients.The preparation should also not be used if there is a perforated intestinal wall, an intestinal blockage (intestinal obstruction, ileus) or severe inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or toxic megacolon.

Dosage and application

Adults, children aged 12 and over and older patients should dissolve the contents of one sachet in 125 ml of water and drink 1 to 3 times a day if constipation occurs.The drinking solution should be freshly prepared before taking and not mixed with other solutions, drinks or additives in order not to change the electrolyte concentration.The duration of treatment should normally not be longer than 2 weeks.However, if necessary, Macrogol dura can be used repeatedly.Longer-term use may be necessary for severe chronic or persistent constipation, which may be caused by diseases such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease or by taking medications that promote constipation.

Intake and patient information
