Overview

Clotrimazole is an active ingredient from the group of broad-spectrum antifungals that is used to treat fungal skin infections.These infections can be caused by various pathogens such as dermatophytes, yeasts (e.g. Candida species), molds and others such as Malassezia furfur, as well as Corynebacterium minutissimum.The infections can manifest themselves as mycoses of the feet, mycoses of the skin and skin folds, pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma or superficial candidiasis.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The cream contains 10 mg clotrimazole per gram. The following excipients are also included: (RS)-2-octyldodecan-1-ol, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, purified water and benzyl alcohol.

Application

The cream is applied thinly to the affected areas 2 to 3 times a day and rubbed in.A small amount of cream (approx. 0.5 cm strand length) is enough for an area about the size of a palm.The duration of treatment varies depending on the extent and location of the disease.It is important to use it regularly and for a sufficiently long period of time to achieve complete healing.Treatment should not be stopped after the acute symptoms have subsided, but should be continued for at least 4 weeks.

Pityriasis versicolor generally heals in 1-3 weeks, erythrasma in 2-4 weeks.In the case of athlete's foot, treatment should be continued for approximately 2 weeks after all signs of the disease have disappeared in order to prevent relapses.After each wash, the feet should be dried thoroughly, especially the spaces between the toes.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients in the cream.

Dosage

Always use the medicine exactly as directed.Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is 2 to 3 times a day.A small amount of cream is usually sufficient for an area about the size of a palm.The duration of treatment depends on the extent and location of the disease and should be continued for at least 4 weeks.

Intake

The cream is applied thinly to the affected skin areas with your fingers and then rubbed into the skin.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when using deodorants or other cosmetics on the affected skin areas.This should only be done after consulting your doctor, as a reduction in effectiveness cannot be ruled out.No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Before using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.Clotrimazole should not be used in early pregnancy out of caution.During breastfeeding, the medicine must not be used in the breast area to prevent small amounts of the active ingredient from passing into breast milk.

Notes

Careful personal care should be taken, e.g. changing linen regularly, to support healing.The medicine should not be placed in the eyes.
