Area of application

Rivanol® ointment contains the active ingredient ethacridine lactate, which belongs to the group of acridine derivatives.This medicine has an antibacterial effect and is suitable for reducing germs on the skin.It is particularly used to treat small wounds and is ideal for use under bandages or plasters.When applied locally, ethacridine lactate inhibits the buildup of the bacterial wall, which leads to the rapid death of many pathogens.

Rivanol® ointment contains the active ingredient ethacridine lactate monohydrate.One gram of ointment contains 2 milligrams of ethacridine lactate monohydrate.The other ingredients are zinc oxide, wheat starch, isopropyl myristate, white petroleum jelly, alpha-(hexadecyl,octadecyl)-omega-hydroxypoly(oxyethylene)-3.5 and purified water.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients, the product should not be used.The product must not be used in the eye area.

Dosage

Apply Rivanol® ointment in a thin layer to the affected skin area 3 times a day.The ointment should always be applied thinly in order to accelerate the drying process, to avoid secretion build-up and to avoid using bandages if possible.

Patient information

Areas of skin to which the preparation has been applied should not be exposed to sunlight for a long period of time.

There is no experience with regard to impairment of the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.The medicine should not be used during pregnancy as there are no studies on teratogenic effects.The medicine should also not be used during breastfeeding, as it is not known exactly whether the medicine passes into breast milk.

Notes

Rivanol® ointment turns skin, laundry and other items yellow.Contact of the ointment with materials that can become colored should be avoided.Cloths that have come into contact with Rivanol® ointment should not be washed in the washing machine with other textiles.Fresh stains can be easily removed from laundry by simply washing, but they are difficult to remove after drying and oxidation.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
