Instructions for use of Canesten Extra Cream

Canesten Extra Cream is an over-the-counter medicine for the treatment of fungal skin diseases.The active ingredient bifonazole effectively fights various types of fungi such as dermatophytes, yeasts, molds and other pathogens, including Malassezia furfur and Corynebacterium minutissimum.The cream is also effective for mixed infections in which fungi and bacteria spread together.

Mode of action

Bifonazole, the main active ingredient in Canesten Extra Cream, penetrates deep into the skin and damages the cell membranes of the fungi.This inhibits the growth of the fungi and ultimately kills them.In addition, bifonazole has an anti-inflammatory effect, which helps relieve symptoms such as itching, burning and redness.The cream is waterproof and is therefore suitable for use during sporting activities.

Areas of application

Canesten Extra Cream is used for various fungal skin diseases, including:

Fungal infections of the feet and hands, including athlete's foot and nail fungus, fungal infections of the folds of the body, fungal infections of the skin, pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma, a bacterial skin infection, and superficial candidiasis.

Application and dosage

The cream should be applied thinly to the affected skin areas once a day and rubbed in gently.It is recommended to do this in the evening before going to bed.A strand of cream about a centimeter long is enough to cover an area the size of a palm.Treatment should be continued until symptoms disappear completely and for some time beyond that to avoid relapse.

The duration of treatment varies depending on the type of fungal infection:

Athlete's foot and mycosis between my toes: three weeks, fungal infections on the body, hands and in skin folds: two to three weeks, bran fungus and erythrasma: two weeks, yeast infections of the skin: two to four weeks.

Side effects and precautions

Possible side effects include skin irritation such as redness, burning and flaking.If you are hypersensitive to bifonazole or any of the other ingredients, the medicine should not be used.For infants and small children under two years of age, the cream should only be used after consulting a doctor.Use should be discussed with a doctor during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Composition

Active ingredient: Bifonazole 10 mg.Excipients: benzyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, water, purified.

Storage instructions

The medicine may be used for a maximum of 16 months after opening and should be stored at room temperature.No prescription is required for this product.
