Information for use of the article Senna leaves tea: - Indications: Herbal stimulant laxative for short-term use in constipation in children from 10 years of age and adults. - Dosage and method of administration: Adults and children aged 12 and over drink a cup of tea infusion twice a day, made from about 0.75 g senna leaves and boiling water. The individually correct dosage is the lowest required to obtain a soft-formed stool. The effect usually occurs after 8 to 12 hours. - Duration of use: The stimulant laxative should not be used for more than 1-2 weeks without medical advice. - Overdose: Overdose may cause painful intestinal cramps, severe diarrhoea and liver damage. If overdose is suspected, a doctor should be consulted immediately. - Contraindications: The medicine should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients, intestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease and during pregnancy or breastfeeding. It is also not recommended for use in cases of fluid deficiency, abdominal pain of unknown cause and other specific diseases. - Side effects: So far, side effects have only rarely been reported. A doctor or pharmacist should be contacted in the event of any disturbances of well-being. - Composition: The medicinal tea contains 100 g of senna leaves as the active substance. - Important information: The urine colour may change. Prolonged use of laxatives may lead to chronic constipation and is not suitable for weight loss. Interactions with other medicines may occur, so all medicines should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist beforehand. - Storage: The medicine should be protected from moisture and stored in the dark.
