Bad Heilbrunner laxative tea is a herbal laxative used for short-term treatment of occasional constipation. It contains senna leaves as the active ingredient. There are some contraindications to the use of the laxative tea. It should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to senna leaves or other components of the product, intestinal obstruction, appendicitis, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, abdominal pain of unknown cause and severe fluid deficiency. Children under 12 years of age should also not take the tea. Pregnant women should only use the tea during the first three months of pregnancy if other measures do not help. When using the laxative tea, it should be noted that prolonged use should be avoided. The dosage should be adjusted individually and the lowest dose necessary to obtain soft-formed stools should be used. The laxative effect of the tea sets in about 6-10 hours after ingestion. There are some possible side effects of using the laxative tea, but these are rare. The dosage and application instructions for the laxative tea are as follows: Adolescents from 12 years and adults should take 1 tea bag once a day before going to bed. The tea infusion should be drunk after the evening meal. The total dose should not be exceeded. The effect of the laxative tea is based on the senna leaves it contains. The ingredients of the senna plant stimulate the movements of the colon and inhibit the recovery of water and salts, which makes the intestinal wall more stretched and facilitates emptying.
