Description

Grünwalder Sennalax is a herbal medicine that consists of dry extract of Alexandrian senna fruit and serves as a natural laxative.The senna fruits come from a small shrub in the tropics and are traditionally used for constipation.The ingredients in senna bind fluid, making the stool softer, and at the same time stimulate the intestines to contract and move the stool further.

Area of application

This herbal preparation serves as a stimulating laxative and is used for short-term constipation.If constipation lasts longer than a week, a doctor should be consulted.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

One film-coated tablet contains 55.2 to 107.2 mg dry extract from Alexandrian senna fruits, adjusted to 13.0 mg hydroxyanthracene derivatives (calculated as sennoside B) (6-12:1), with ethanol 60% (V/V) as extractant.Other excipients include calcium bis(octadecanoate), microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium salt, glycerol diacetate alkanoate (C16-C18), macrogol 6000, pregelatinized corn starch, maltodextrin, povidone K25, shellac, highly dispersed silicon dioxide and talc.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to Alexandrian senna or other ingredients, if you have intestinal obstruction, appendicitis, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, if you have abdominal pain of unknown cause or if you have severe dehydration with water and salt losses.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take 1-2 film-coated tablets once daily.The highest daily intake should not be more than 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives, therefore no more than 2 film-coated tablets may be taken per day.The personally correct dosage is the lowest required to obtain soft-formed stools.

Stimulant laxatives should not be taken for longer than 1-2 weeks without medical advice.Accidental overdose may cause painful intestinal cramps and severe diarrhea.In this case, a doctor should be contacted immediately.

Intake

The film-coated tablets are taken whole with plenty of liquid in the evening before going to bed.The effect occurs after 8-12 hours.

Patient information

You should speak to a doctor or pharmacist before taking the medication if you are also taking certain heart medications, medications for cardiac arrhythmias, diuretics, cortisone or licorice root.The preparation may only be taken after consulting a doctor.

Particular caution is required as stimulant laxatives should not be taken for long periods of time without medical advice.Ingestion beyond short-term use can lead to an increase in intestinal sluggishness.The preparation should only be used if the constipation cannot be resolved through a change in diet or bulking preparations.
