Mepilex Ag is an antimicrobial foam dressing made of soft silicone.It consists of a Safetac wound contact layer, a flexible, absorbent wound dressing made of gray polyurethane foam containing silver sulfate and colored by activated carbon, and a breathable and waterproof film.Safetac is a proprietary adhesive technology developed by Mölnlycke that minimizes patient pain and injury to intact skin or wounds.

Mepilex Ag is a highly customizable dressing that absorbs exudate and maintains a moist wound environment.The dressing contains silver sulfate, which forms an effective bacterial barrier and inactivates a variety of wound-related pathogens (bacteria and fungi), which has been proven in vitro.By reducing the number of microorganisms, Mepilex Ag can also reduce odors.Mepilex Ag is used in vitro and has been proven to reduce wound-related pathogens for up to 7 days.

Mepilex Ag has been developed for the treatment of weakly to moderately exuding leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers and second degree burns.It can be used on infected wounds as part of a treatment regimen under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.Mepilex Ag can be used under compression bandages.

Scope of application

Mepilex Ag should be used by or under the supervision of a healthcare professional.Note that local hygiene procedures must be followed before and after dressing changes.

Clean the wound with saline or water according to usual clinical practice.Dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly.Choose the appropriate bandage size.For optimal clinical results, ensure the product covers the wound bed and overlaps the wound edges.Trim to appropriate size (if necessary).Remove the protective films and place the adhesive side on the wound.Don't stretch.If necessary, fix Mepilex Ag with a bandage or other fixation.

Each Mepilex Ag dressing can be left on the wound for 7 days depending on the condition of the wound and surrounding skin or in accordance with accepted clinical practice.

A change in dressing regime may result in initially increased levels of exudate, which may temporarily require increased frequency of dressing changes.Mepilex Ag is intended for short-term use of up to 4 weeks.For long-term use, clinical assessment by a doctor is recommended.In the event of a clinical infection, Mepilex Ag does not replace the need for systemic or other appropriate infection treatment.

Please note that Mepilex Ag color variations have no impact on the performance or safety of the product.

Precautions

Do not use Mepilex Ag in patients and/or users with a known hypersensitivity to the materials/components of the product.Physicians/healthcare professionals should be aware that there is very limited data on the prolonged and repeated use of silver-containing dressings, particularly in children and newborns.

Frequent or prolonged use of this product may cause temporary or permanent skin discoloration.Do not reuse.If reused, product performance may deteriorate and contamination transfer may occur.Sterile.Do not use if the sterile barrier is damaged or opened before use.Do not re-sterilize.
