This medicine is available without prescription. However, to achieve the best possible treatment success, Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets must be used as prescribed. This leaflet contains: WAS IST CALCIUM 500 DURA BRAUSETABLETTEN UND WOFÜR WIRD ES USED? Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets is a mineral preparation. Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets is used to prevent calcium deficiency in cases of increased need (e.g. growing age, pregnancy, breastfeeding) and for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis. Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets must not be taken in the event of: excessive calcium concentrations in the blood or urine, prolonged immobilisation of limbs (immobilisation), calcium-containing kidney stones or calcification of the kidney, hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product. Special caution is required when taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets: Taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets increases the excretion of calcium in the urine. In the first few months after starting to take the tablets, this also increases the tendency to precipitate calcium salts and possibly to form stones in the kidneys and urinary bladder. This can be avoided by drinking plenty of fluids. In renal insufficiency, Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets should only be used with continuous monitoring of the calcium and phosphate concentrations in the blood and urine. During therapy with high doses of Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets, especially if vitamin D is also administered, there is a risk of hypercalcaemia which may be followed by renal dysfunction. In such patients, serum calcium levels and kidney function should be monitored. Only take Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets after consulting your doctor if you have impaired kidney function or if the phosphate concentration in the blood is low (hypophosphataemia). Also ask your doctor for advice if you have a family history of calcium-containing kidney stones. If you are taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets with other medicines: Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used any other medicines. Vitamin D increases the effect of Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets (absorption increase). Certain diuretics (thiazide-type diuretics) reduce the excretion of calcium. If Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets and such medicines are taken at the same time, the serum calcium level should therefore be monitored regularly. If you are taking corticosteroids, this may reduce the absorption of calcium and it may be necessary to increase the dose of Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets. If the intake of Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets increases the calcium blood level, the sensitivity to certain medicines that increase the strength of the heart (cardioactive glycosides) is increased and the risk of cardiac arrhythmias is increased. Patients receiving concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides and calcium should be monitored by EKG and checking serum calcium levels. The absorption and thus also the efficacy of various antibiotics such as tetracyclines, quinolones, some cefalosporins as well as many other medicinal products (e. g. B. the antifungal agent ketoconazole, iron, sodium fluoride, estramustine, bisphosphonate preparations) is reduced by the simultaneous intake of Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets. An interval of at least 2 hours should therefore be observed between taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets and taking other preparations. Calcium salts reduce the absorption of phosphate by forming poorly soluble salts. When taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets with food and drink: Dairy products have a high calcium content. This should be taken into account when taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets. Interactions may also occur with foods containing oxalic acid, phytic acid or phosphates, such as spinach, rhubarb, cereal products. Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking/using any medicines. Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets should only be taken during pregnancy if you have a calcium deficiency. If you are pregnant, you should contact your doctor before taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets. Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets should only be taken during breast-feeding if there is a calcium deficiency. If you are breast-feeding your baby, you should contact your doctor before taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets. Driving and operating machines: No special precautions are required. Important information about certain other ingredients of Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets: Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets contain 25 mg of aspartame as a source of phenylalanine (equivalent to 14 mg/dose) and may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria. This medicine contains lactose. Please only take Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets after consulting your doctor if you are known to suffer from a sugar intolerance. WIE IST CALCIUM 500 DURA BRAUSETABLETTEN TO TAKE? Always take Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets exactly as directed in this leaflet. The usual dose is 500-1000 mg of calcium daily (equivalent to 1 effervescent tablet 1-2 times a day). The effervescent tablets are taken dissolved in a glass of water. They should be taken with or after meals. The treatment of calcium deficiency and osteoporosis should be long-term. The duration of use depends on the desired therapeutic goal. Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets should be taken on a long-term basis. WELCHE NEBENWIRKUNGEN SIND POSSIBLE? When taking Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets, constipation, flatulence, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea may rarely occur. Rarely, itching, hives and skin rash may occur. In the first months of calcium administration, there is increased calcium excretion in the urine, which can promote stone formation. In the case of renal insufficiency and long-term intake, there may be an increase in the calcium concentration in the blood (hypercalcaemia), increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria) and hypoacidity of the blood (metabolic alkalosis). Like all medicines, Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the container and the folding box. Do not dispose of the medicine in waste water or household waste. Always keep the tube tightly closed, dry and not above 30°C. What Calcium 500 Dura Effervescent Tablets contains: The active substance is calcium carbonate. 1 effervescent tablet contains 1250 mg calcium carbonate, corresponding to 500 mg calcium. The other ingredients are: Anhydrous citric acid, lactose monohydrate, povidone K25, saccharin sodium dihydrate, aspartame, macrogol 6000, lemon flavouring, dimethicone 500, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, methyl cellulose, sorbic acid. Calcium 500 Dura effervescent tablets are white to almost white, round, biplane effervescent tablets. They are available in packs of 10, 20, 40, 50 and 100 effervescent tablets.
