Areas of application
Calcigen D forte 1000 mg/880 IU effervescent tablets are used to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older patients.They also serve as an adjunct to specific osteoporosis treatment in patients with proven or high risk of such deficiencies.No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients and ingredients
Each effervescent tablet contains 2,500 mg of calcium carbonate, which corresponds to 1,000 mg of elemental calcium, and 22 µg of colecalciferol, which corresponds to 880 IU of vitamin D3.The other ingredients include alpha-tocopherol, hydrogenated soybean oil, corn starch, citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, lactose monohydrate, povidone (K25), saccharin sodium, sodium cyclamate, macrogol 6000, orange juice flavor, dimeticone, colloidal silicon dioxide and methylcellulose.
Dosage and application
The usual dose for adults and elderly patients is one effervescent tablet once daily.The effervescent tablet should be dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately.The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage unless otherwise directed by the doctor.
Contraindications
Calcigen D forte 1000 mg/880 IU effervescent tablets must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to one of the active ingredients or one of the other ingredients, if calcium concentrations in the blood or urine are too high, if you have calcium-containing kidney stones or calcification of the kidneys, or if limbs are immobilized for a long time (immobilization).The medicine must not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Calcigen D forte 1000 mg/880 IU effervescent tablets can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased calcium levels in the blood and urine, constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, hives, itching and rash.Very rarely, severe allergic reactions can occur.If any of the listed side effects worsen, stop taking it and seek medical attention immediately.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy, the medicine should only be taken according to strict indications and only in the dosage that is absolutely necessary to correct the deficiency.Overdoses of vitamin D during pregnancy must be prevented, as long-term hypercalcemia can lead to physical and mental disability as well as congenital heart and eye diseases in the child.During breastfeeding, the medicine should only be taken if there is a deficiency.
Storage
The medicine must be stored protected from moisture.It must not be used after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube.The effervescent tablets should not be stored above 25 °C.The tube should be kept tightly closed to protect the contents from moisture.
