Area of application

This medicine contains the active ingredients calcium and vitamin D3.Calcium is essential for bone structure, while vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium from the intestine and its storage in the bones.It is used in elderly patients to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies.It can also be used as a supplement to osteoporosis treatment if vitamin D and calcium levels are too low or there is an increased risk of such deficiencies.

Each effervescent tablet contains 2500 mg of calcium carbonate, which corresponds to 1000 mg of calcium ions.It also contains 8.8 mg of colecalciferol dry concentrate, which corresponds to 880 IE (22 µg) of colecalciferol.The excipients used are alpha-tocopherol, citric acid (anhydrous), gelatin, lactose-1-water (396 mg), macrogol 6000, corn starch, sodium cyclamate, sodium bicarbonate, povidone K25, saccharin sodium (3.68 mg), sucrose, simeticone emulsion, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, methyl cellulose, simeticone, hardenedContains soybean oil (0.73 mg), sodium ions (97 mg, 4.22 mmol) and orange flavor.

Contraindications

The preparation must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), any of the excipients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.Its use is also contraindicated if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high (hypercalcemia) and/or increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalcuria).Likewise, the preparation must not be taken in conditions that lead to hypercalcemia and/or hypercalcuria, such as hyperfunction of the parathyroid glands, bone marrow disease (myeloma) or malignant bone tumors (bone metastases).Patients with kidney failure, kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) or calcium deposits in the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis) as well as a vitamin D overdose (hypervitaminosis D) should also not take the preparation.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.The usual dose for adults and the elderly is 1000 mg calcium and 880 IE vitamin D daily, equivalent to one effervescent tablet per day.The doctor decides on the duration of the treatment.In the event of an overdose, you should stop taking it and consult a doctor immediately.Symptoms of an overdose may include loss of appetite, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disorders, increased thirst, increased urination, bone pain, calcium deposits in the kidneys, kidney stones and, in severe cases, cardiac arrhythmia.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose.If you stop treatment, you should consult your doctor.

Intake

The effervescent tablets are dissolved in a glass of water and taken immediately.

Patient information

During long-term treatment, serum calcium levels and renal function should be checked regularly.This is particularly important in older patients and during simultaneous treatment with cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin) and diuretics.Before taking, consider the amount of vitamin D, calcium and alkali already taken from other sources to avoid the risk of Burnett syndrome.Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from kidney stones, an immune system disorder (sarcoidosis), limited mobility and reduced bone mass (osteoporosis) or are taking other vitamin D3 or calcium-containing preparations.The effervescent tablets are not suitable for children and young people.No effects on the ability to drive or use machines are expected.

Pregnancy

These effervescent tablets should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to the high dosage of vitamin D.Overdoses of vitamin D must be avoided during pregnancy, as a long-term increase in calcium levels in the blood can lead to developmental delays, special forms of aortic narrowing and retinal diseases in the child.Vitamin D and its metabolites pass into breast milk.
