Calcium-Sandoz® D Osteo Intens chewable tablets contain the active ingredients calcium and vitamin D3.These substances are essential for building bones and maintaining healthy bone density.The preparation is used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in older people.It also serves as a supplement to the supportive treatment of osteoporosis.

Mode of action

Calcium is an important mineral that forms hard tissue in the body.It is essential for the formation and growth of bones and teeth.Vitamin D3 supports the absorption of calcium and promotes its storage in the bones.

Each chewable tablet contains 2,500 mg calcium carbonate (equivalent to 1,000 mg calcium) and 8.8 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate (powder form) (equivalent to 22 micrograms colecalciferol = 880 IU vitamin D3).

Other ingredients are isomalt (E953), xylitol, sorbitol (E420), citric acid, sodium dihydrogen citrate, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], carmellose sodium (Ph.Eur.), orange flavor “CPB” and orange flavor “CVT” (both contain sorbitol [E 420]), aspartame (E951), acesulfame potassium,Sodium ascorbate, all-rac-α-tocopherol, starch, modified (corn), sucrose (sugar), medium-chain triglycerides and colloidal silicon dioxide.

Area of application

Calcium-Sandoz® D Osteo Intens chewable tablets are used to prevent and treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in older people.They also serve as an adjunct to the supportive treatment of osteoporosis in patients at risk of vitamin D and calcium deficiency.

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults and older people is 1 chewable tablet daily (corresponding to 1,000 mg calcium and 880 IU vitamin D3).Pregnant women take 1/2 chewable tablet daily (corresponding to 500 mg calcium and 440 IU vitamin D3).The daily dose of 1/2 chewable tablet must not be exceeded.The medicine must not be taken by children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Taking this medicine is a long-term treatment.Talk to your doctor about how long you should take the tablets.

Intake

The tablet must be chewed before it is swallowed.It can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.During long-term therapy, blood and urine calcium levels and your kidney function must be monitored regularly.This is especially important if you are prone to kidney stone formation.

If you have kidney problems, you should only take the medicine with particular caution, especially if you also take products containing aluminum.Your blood and urine calcium levels need to be monitored.

The medicine must not be taken by children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, you can take the medicine in case of calcium and vitamin D deficiency.The daily dose of 1/2 chewable tablet must not be exceeded.During pregnancy, the daily dose of calcium should not be higher than 1,500 mg and the daily dose of vitamin D3 should not be higher than 600 IU.

The medicine can be used during breastfeeding.Since calcium and vitamin D are excreted in breast milk, please consult your doctor first to see whether your child is already receiving preparations containing vitamin D.

Keep Calcium-Sandoz® D Osteo Intens chewable tablets out of the reach of children.After each tablet is taken, close the tube tightly again and keep it closed to protect the contents from moisture.

This medicine contains aspartame (E951) as a source of phenylalanine and may be harmful if you have phenylketonuria.This medicine also contains sorbitol (E 420), isomalt (E 953) and sucrose (sugar).If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
