Calcimed 500 mg effervescent tablets are a mineral preparation used to prevent calcium deficiency in cases of increased need (e.g. growing age, pregnancy, breastfeeding) and for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis. One effervescent tablet contains 500 mg calcium carbonate, corresponding to 500 mg calcium. The recommended dose is 1 effervescent tablet 1-2 times a day, taken in a glass of water during or after a meal. Treatment of calcium deficiency and osteoporosis should be long-term. The intake may lead to increased calcium levels and excretion, constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, nausea and skin reactions. The medicine contains sorbitol and sodium and should be kept dry and out of reach of children. There are some contraindications and precautions for use during pregnancy, lactation and in certain medical conditions. Information on compatibility with other medicines should be obtained before use. Food supplements should not be a substitute for a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
