Area of application
Fol Lichtenstein 5 mg tablets are used to treat folic acid deficiency conditions that cannot be remedied by changing your diet.Folic acid is an essential vitamin that the body needs.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The tablets contain 5 mg of folic acid as the active ingredient.The following excipients are also included: cellulose powder, lactose-1-water, magnesium stearate, highly disperse silicon dioxide and talc.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to folic acid or any of the other ingredients.The increase in young red blood cells caused by folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency.Therefore, before treating anemia caused by impaired red blood cell development, it must be ensured that there is no vitamin B12 deficiency.
Dosage
The usual dose is 1 to 3 tablets per day, equivalent to 5 to 15 mg of folic acid, as needed.During pregnancy the maximum daily dose should not exceed 5 mg.The duration of treatment depends on the extent of the folic acid deficiency and is determined by the doctor.
Intake
The tablets are taken whole with meals with a little liquid.
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine.Even in the case of life-threatening anemia, a possible vitamin B12 deficiency must be ruled out before starting therapy.During pregnancy, the maximum daily dose of 5 mg folic acid should not be exceeded.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.There are no known risks up to a daily dose of 5 mg.Controlled studies have shown no evidence of harm to the unborn child.Folic acid supplementation can reduce the risk of neural tube defects.Dosages higher than 5 mg per day should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
