Area of application

The medicine is a selective serotonin (5-HT1) receptor agonist and is used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with and without aura in patients between the ages of 18 and 65 years.It is only suitable for people who know for sure that they suffer from migraines.Typical migraine symptoms include one-sided, pounding headaches, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Migraine symptoms can be caused by a temporary dilation of the blood vessels in the head.Naratriptan reduces this dilatation, thereby relieving headaches and other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and noise.

The safety and effectiveness of the drug for treating aura symptoms that occur before the onset of the headache have not been established.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The medicine contains 2.77 mg of naratriptan hydrochloride, which is equivalent to 2.5 mg of naratriptan.The following excipients are also included: microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, iron (III) hydroxide oxide x-water, indigo carmine aluminum salt, lactose, macrogol 3350, magnesium stearate, poly(vinyl alcohol), talc, titanium dioxide and sodium ions.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to naratriptan or any of the other ingredients.It is not suitable for preventing migraine attacks and should not be used by people under 18 years of age or over 65 years of age.

Other contraindications include heart problems such as angina pectoris, heart attack, ischemic heart disease, spasm of the coronary arteries, peripheral vascular disease, stroke, mini-stroke, high blood pressure, kidney or liver disease, circulatory disorders in the legs and rare forms of migraine such as hemiplegic, basilar or ophthalmoplegic migraine.

The medicine must not be used at the same time as medications containing ergotamine, ergotamine derivatives, methysergide or other triptans.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor has told you.It should be used at the first occurrence of a migraine headache, but only if you know for sure that it is a migraine.

Adults between 18 and 65 years of age should take one film-coated tablet equivalent to 2.5 mg naratriptan as soon as possible after the first signs of migraine headache.The tablets are also effective when used later during the migraine attack.

If there is improvement after the first tablet but the symptoms return, a second tablet can be taken, but not earlier than four hours after the first.In total, no more than two tablets should be taken within 24 hours or for the same migraine attack.

If the first dose does not provide relief, a second dose should not be taken for the same attack.The medicine can be used again for subsequent attacks.Contact your doctor if there is no improvement after taking it.

At least 24 hours should elapse after taking the drug before administering a product containing ergotamine or another 5-HT1 receptor agonist.Conversely, there should be at least 24 hours between using a preparation containing ergotamine and taking this medicine.

Use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age and in adults over 65 years of age is contraindicated.

In the event of an overdose, you should contact your doctor immediately and take the pack and the instructions for use with you.

Intake

The tablets should be swallowed whole with water.

Patient information

Contact your doctor if your headaches last longer than 24 hours, occur more frequently, you do not fully recover between attacks, you are over 50 years old and this type of headache is occurring for the first time, your migraine attacks increase or occur more frequently, or if your migraines are accompanied by symptoms such as weakness of the body on one side, double vision, clumsy movements, tinnitus, impaired consciousness or paroxysmal movements.

Please talk to your doctor before taking the preparation if three or more of the following apply to you: you are male and over 40 years old or a woman after the menopause, you are very overweight, you smoke regularly or use nicotine-containing preparations to stop smoking, you are diabetic, you have high cholesterol levels or your close relatives have had heart disease before the age of 60.

Migraine sufferers have an increased risk of certain vascular diseases of the brain such as stroke or transient ischemic attacks.

After taking the medication, symptoms such as tingling, feeling of heat or heaviness, pressure and tightness, or pain may occur in different parts of the body including the chest, throat, and neck.If these symptoms last longer than two hours or are particularly intense, a medical examination must be carried out immediately.Additional tablets may only be taken with a doctor's permission.

Women with migraine who also use combined oral contraceptives have an increased risk of stroke.If you are taking oral contraceptives and you have recently developed migraine symptoms for the first time or your migraine symptoms have worsened, or if you have migraine with aura, you should consult your doctor.

Excessive use of naratriptan may result in chronic, daily headaches or an increase in headaches, which may require discontinuation of the drug.

The product must not be used if you are younger than 18 years or older than 65 years.

Both the migraine itself and the use of the medication can cause fatigue.If you are affected, do not drive a motor vehicle or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

There is limited information on the drug's safety in pregnant women, although there is no evidence of an increased risk of birth defects.Your doctor may recommend that you not take this medicine during pregnancy.

You must not breast-feed your baby until 24 hours after taking the medicine.If you express milk during this time, discard it and do not give it to your infant.

Notes

Contains lactose.If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
