Doppelherz aktiv Sodbrennen akut+protect chewable tablets are used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux to relieve associated symptoms such as heartburn, heartburn during pregnancy, reflux oesophagitis, acid regurgitation, indigestion, nocturnal reflux symptoms, coughing and inflammation of the larynx and throat. The chewable tablets contain sodium alginate and carbonates, which use a physical mechanism of action to neutralise stomach acid and form a protective layer that prevents gastric juice from flowing back into the oesophagus. This supports the regeneration of the mucous membrane of the oesophagus and reduces the risk of reoccurrence of reflux oesophagitis. The tablets should be taken after meals and before going to bed. There are certain warnings that should be heeded, such as the possible impairment of the absorption of oral medicines and the need not to take the product in severe renal insufficiency. The tablets may also cause flatulence and contain a certain amount of sodium and calcium.
