What is Endofalk® Classic and what is it used for?
Endofalk® Classic is a white powder used to make an oral solution.It is used to cleanse the intestines in preparation for operations or examinations, especially colonoscopies.The active ingredients are potassium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and macrogol 3350. Each sachet contains 0.185 g of potassium chloride, 1.400 g of sodium chloride, 0.715 g of sodium bicarbonate and 52.500 g of macrogol 3350. When two sachets are dissolved in one liter of water, the solution contains 0.370 g of potassium chloride, 2.800 g of sodium chloride,1,430 g sodium bicarbonate and 105,000 g macrogol 3350. The other ingredients are saccharin sodium, orange flavor, passion fruit flavor and highly dispersed silicon dioxide.
What do you need to consider before taking Endofalk® Classic?
Endofalk® Classic must not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to any of the components, intestinal obstruction, narrowing or perforations in the gastrointestinal area, impaired swallowing and gag reflexes, impaired consciousness or a tendency to swallow liquids.Particular caution is required if you have chronic inflammatory bowel disease, inflammation of the esophagus, certain cardiac arrhythmias or if you are an elderly patient.Patients with impaired kidney function, severe heart failure or liver disease, and severe dehydration should not use Endofalk® Classic.There is no sufficient experience with its use in children.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Endofalk® Classic should only be taken after carefully weighing the benefits and risks.
How to use Endofalk® Classic?
Endofalk® Classic should always be used exactly as directed by your doctor.To completely cleanse the intestines, 3 or a maximum of 4 liters of the solution must be taken.The solution is drunk in portions of 200 - 300 ml per 10 minutes until the discharge from the anus is clear.It is generally taken around 4 hours before the start of the examination.You should not eat any solid food 2 to 3 hours before drinking Endofalk® Classic or until after the examination.To prepare the solution, two bags are dissolved in 500 ml of lukewarm water and then filled up to 1 liter with water.After preparation, the solution can be placed in the refrigerator to cool down.
What side effects are possible?
Endofalk® Classic can cause side effects such as nausea, bloating, flatulence, vomiting, stomach cramps and ileus irritation.Occasionally, general malaise and insomnia may occur.Very rarely, disorders of heart function, drops in blood levels of sodium, potassium, calcium and chloride as well as allergic reactions such as a runny nose or skin inflammation can occur.If you experience abdominal pain or other gastrointestinal complaints, you should temporarily drink Endofalk® Classic more slowly or stop taking it until these symptoms subside.
How should Endofalk® Classic be stored?
Endofalk® Classic should be kept out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the bag and carton.The ready-to-drink solution can be kept at room temperature for a maximum of 3 hours or in the refrigerator for a maximum of 48 hours.
