The active ingredients of Ossofortin forte are calcium carbonate and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).One effervescent tablet contains 1500 mg of calcium carbonate, which corresponds to 600 mg of calcium ions, and 4 mg of colecalciferol dry concentrate, which corresponds to 400 international units of vitamin D3.Excipients include all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, malic acid, colloidal silicon dioxide, maltodextrin, medium-chain triglycerides, modified corn starch, sodium ascorbate, sodium carbonate, sodium cyclamate, sodium bicarbonate, saccharin sodium, anhydrous citric acid, lemon flavor and sugar (sucrose).

Contraindications

Ossofortin forte must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, colecalciferol or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.Also with increased calcium content in the blood (hypercalcemia), increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria), kidney limestones, tissue calcification of the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis), impaired kidney function (renal insufficiency), hyperfunction of the parathyroid gland, vitamin D overdose, multiple bone marrow tumors (myeloma), secondary tumors in the bone (bone metastases) orThe product should not be used to immobilize limbs.Caution is advised for certain lung diseases such as sarcoidosis.

Dosage

Adults take 1 effervescent tablet twice a day (morning and evening).This corresponds to a daily dose of 1200 mg calcium and 800 international units of vitamin D. The effervescent tablet is dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately.It can be taken with food or between meals.The treatment should be long-term, although the exact duration should be discussed with the doctor.

Patient information

During long-term treatment with Ossofortin forte, serum and urine calcium levels and renal function should be monitored regularly.This is particularly important in older patients and in patients receiving additional cardiac glycosides or diuretics.If there is impaired kidney function, the drug should be used with caution.Additional calcium or vitamin D preparations may only be taken under medical supervision.Patients with sarcoidosis should have blood and urine calcium levels monitored.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a daily intake of 1500 mg calcium and 600 international units of vitamin D should not be exceeded.Therefore, Ossofortin forte should not be taken during pregnancy to avoid overdose of vitamin D.Vitamin D and its metabolites are excreted in breast milk, but there are no known adverse effects on the child.
