Area of application

Calcigen D 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets contain the active ingredients calcium and vitamin D3.Calcium is an essential component of bones, while vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium from the intestine and its incorporation into the bones.This medicine is used in elderly patients to correct combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies and as an adjunct to specific osteoporosis treatment when there is a combined deficiency or a high risk of such deficiencies.

1 Chewable tablet contains 1500 mg calcium carbonate (corresponding to 600 mg calcium) and 4 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate (corresponding to 400 IU vitamin D3).Other ingredients include xylitol, mannitol, magnesium stearate, highly disperse silicon dioxide, pre-gelatinized corn starch, butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), medium-chain triglycerides, sucrose, gelatin, modified starch, sodium aluminum silicate and flavorings.

Contraindications

This preparation must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D or any of the other ingredients, if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high or increased calcium excretion in the urine, if you have conditions that lead to hypercalcemia and/or hypercalcuria, if you have kidney failure, kidney stones, calcium deposits in the kidneys or vitamin D overdose.No prescription is required for this product.

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and the elderly is one tablet twice daily.Pregnant women should only take one tablet per day.During long-term treatment, calcium levels in urine and blood must be monitored.The preparation is not suitable for use in children and adolescents.The doctor decides on the duration of the treatment.

Intake

The chewable tablets should be chewed and swallowed with a little liquid.In exceptional cases they can also be sucked.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take the medicine two hours before or after meals to avoid affecting iron absorption.

Patient information

During long-term treatment, serum calcium levels and renal function should be checked regularly.Before taking, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from kidney stones, sarcoidosis, limited mobility, osteoporosis or kidney dysfunction.The amount of vitamin D taken should be taken into account when using other vitamin D medications.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.The preparation can be used during pregnancy, but the daily intake should not exceed 1,500 mg calcium and 600 IU vitamin D.If you are breastfeeding, you should consult your doctor as to whether the child is already receiving products containing vitamin D3.
