Instructions for use for Calcigen D 600 mg / 400 IU chewable tablets, 120 pcs

Area of application

This medicine contains the active ingredients calcium and vitamin D3.Calcium is essential for bone structure, while vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium from the intestine and its storage in the bones. It is used in elderly patients to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies. It can also be used as an adjunct to osteoporosis treatment when vitamin D and calcium levels are too low or there is an increased risk of deficiency.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The preparation contains 1500 mg of calcium carbonate, which corresponds to 600 mg of calcium ions.It also contains 4 mg of colecalciferol dry concentrate, which corresponds to 400 IE (10 µg) vitamin D3.The excipients include butylated hydroxytoluene, gelatin, magnesium stearate, pre-gelatinized corn starch, mannitol, sodium aluminum silicate, sucrose, colloidal silicon dioxide, modified starch, medium-chain triglycerides, xylitol, as well as various flavorings such as tutti frutti, allyl hexanoate, citronellol, amyl butyrate, ethyl acetate,Ethyl butyrate, geraniol, 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, alpha-ionone, beta-ionone, isoamyl acetate, maltodextrin and propylene glycol.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D or any of the other ingredients.Taking it is also contraindicated if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high (hypercalcemia) or increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalcuria).Furthermore, the preparation must not be taken if the parathyroid glands are overactive, bone marrow diseases (myeloma), malignant bone tumors (bone metastases), kidney failure, kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), calcium deposits in the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis) or a vitamin D overdose (hypervitaminosis D).

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose for adults and the elderly is one tablet twice daily, morning and evening.Pregnant women should only take one tablet per day.During long-term treatment, calcium levels in the urine and blood must be monitored regularly, especially if you develop kidney stones frequently. The doctor decides how long the treatment will last.

Intake

The chewable tablets should be chewed and swallowed with a little liquid. In exceptional cases, such as if you have problems chewing, the tablets can also be sucked after consulting your doctor.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.During long-term treatment, serum calcium levels and renal function should be checked regularly. This is particularly important in older patients and during concurrent treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics.Consider amounts of vitamin D, calcium and alkali already taken from other sources to avoid the risk of Burnett syndrome. This medicine is not suitable for children and adolescents.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. This medicine can be used during pregnancy, but the daily intake should not exceed 1,500 mg of calcium and 600 IE of vitamin D.If you are pregnant, you should not take more than one chewable tablet per day.Higher doses may be harmful to the unborn child. This preparation can be used during breastfeeding as calcium and vitamin D3 are excreted in breast milk.Consult your doctor whether your child is already receiving products that contain vitamin D3.

Notes

No prescription is required for this product. If you have kidney failure, your doctor should check your calcium and phosphate balance. The amount of vitamin D taken should be taken into account when using other vitamin D medications.Since the medicine already contains vitamin D, additional use of vitamin D or calcium may only be carried out under strict medical supervision. In this case, it is essential to check blood and urine calcium levels weekly.
