Areas of application

Calcigen D 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets are used to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older patients.They also serve as a supplement to specific osteoporosis treatment in patients with an established or high risk of such deficiencies.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each chewable tablet contains 1500 mg of calcium carbonate, equivalent to 600 mg of elemental calcium, and 4 mg of colecalciferol dry concentrate, equivalent to 400 IU of vitamin D3.Other ingredients include xylitol, mannitol, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide, pregelatinized corn starch, butylated hydroxytoluene, medium chain triglycerides, sucrose, gelatin, modified starch, sodium aluminum silicate and various flavorings.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D or any of the other ingredients.It is also contraindicated if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high or there is increased calcium excretion in the urine, kidney stones, calcium deposits in the kidneys, severe kidney dysfunction or a vitamin D overdose.Patients with hyperactive parathyroid glands, myeloma or bone metastases should also not take the preparation.

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and the elderly is one tablet twice daily.Pregnant women should only take one tablet per day.During long-term treatment, calcium levels in urine and blood must be monitored regularly.The chewable tablets should be chewed and swallowed with a little liquid.In exceptional cases they can also be sucked.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take the medicine two hours before or after meals to avoid affecting iron absorption.

Side effects

Possible side effects include increased blood calcium levels, increased calcium excretion in urine, constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, hives, itching and rash.In rare cases, serious allergic reactions may occur.If any of the side effects listed seriously affect you, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

Patient information

During long-term treatment, serum calcium levels and renal function should be checked regularly.This is particularly important in elderly patients and during simultaneous treatment with cardiac glycosides and diuretics.Before taking, consider the amount of vitamin D, calcium and alkali already taken from other sources.An additional administration of Calcigen D 600 mg/400 IU chewable tablets should be given under strict medical supervision.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Pregnant women should not take more than one tablet daily as higher doses may be harmful to the unborn child.Breastfeeding women should consult their doctor whether their child is already receiving products that contain vitamin D3.
