Areas of application

Calcigen D effervescent tablets contain the active ingredients calcium carbonate and vitamin D3 (colecalciferol).Calcium is an essential component of bones, while vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium from the intestine and its incorporation into the bones.This medicine is used in elderly patients to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies.In addition, it can be used as an adjunct to specific osteoporosis treatment if patients have been diagnosed with a combined vitamin D and calcium deficiency or are at high risk of such deficiencies.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each effervescent tablet contains 1500 mg calcium carbonate, which corresponds to 600 mg elemental calcium, and 4 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate, which corresponds to 10 µg (400 IU) vitamin D3.Other ingredients include alpha-tocopherol, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, corn starch, sucrose, gelatin, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, citric acid, (R,S)-hydroxysuccinic acid, sodium cyclamate, maltodextrin, saccharin sodium and lemon flavor.

Contraindications

Calcigen D effervescent tablets must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, vitamin D, soy, peanut or any of the other ingredients.Its use is also contraindicated if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high (hypercalcemia) and/or increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalcuria).The tablets must also not be taken if you have hyperactive parathyroid glands, myeloma, bone metastases, kidney failure, kidney stones, nephrocalcinosis or a vitamin D overdose.

Dosage and application

The usual dose for adults and the elderly is one tablet twice daily.Pregnant women should only take one effervescent tablet per day.The tablet is dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately.It should be taken in the morning and evening.The doctor decides on the duration of the treatment.No prescription is required for this product.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Calcigen D effervescent tablets can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased calcium levels in the blood or urine, nausea, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, itchy skin, rash and hives.In rare cases, serious allergic reactions may occur.

Warnings and precautions

During long-term treatment, serum calcium levels and renal function should be checked regularly.This is particularly important in elderly patients and during simultaneous treatment with cardiac glycosides and diuretics.Before taking it, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist if you suffer from kidney stones, sarcoidosis or limited mobility.The simultaneous use of other preparations containing vitamin D or calcium should also be discussed with a doctor.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Calcigen D effervescent tablets can be used during pregnancy, but the daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU vitamin D.Breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor, as calcium and vitamin D3 are excreted in breast milk.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take the tablets two hours before or after meals to avoid possible interference with iron absorption.

Storage

The medicine should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C and protected from moisture.Keep the medicine out of the reach and reach of children.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube.
