Calcigen D effervescent tablets contain the active ingredients calcium carbonate and vitamin D3.Calcium is an essential component of bones, while vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium from the intestine and its incorporation into the bones.This product is available without a prescription.

Areas of application

Calcigen D effervescent tablets are used to treat combined vitamin D and calcium deficiencies in older patients.They can also serve as a supplement to specific osteoporosis treatment if there is a combined deficiency of vitamin D and calcium or if there is a high risk of such deficiencies.

Important information on application

Calcigen D effervescent tablets must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to calcium carbonate, vitamin D, soy, peanut or any of the other ingredients.It is also contraindicated if calcium concentrations in the blood are too high or there is increased calcium excretion in the urine, if there is kidney failure, kidney stones, calcium deposits in the kidneys or if there is an overdose of vitamin D.Particular caution is required during long-term treatment, especially in elderly patients and during simultaneous treatment with cardiac glycosides and diuretics.

Dosage and application

The usual dose for adults and the elderly is one tablet twice daily.Pregnant women should only take one effervescent tablet per day.The effervescent tablet is dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately.The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.During long-term treatment, calcium levels in urine and blood must be monitored.

Side effects

Possible side effects include increased calcium levels in the blood, increased calcium excretion in the urine, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, itchy skin, rash and hives.In rare cases, serious allergic reactions may occur.

Storage

Calcigen D effervescent tablets should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C and protected from moisture.The medicine should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be used after the expiry date stated on the carton and tube.

Composition

One effervescent tablet contains 1,500 mg calcium carbonate (corresponding to 600 mg elemental calcium) and 4 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate (corresponding to 10 µg vitamin D3, 400 IU).The other ingredients are alpha-tocopherol, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, corn starch, sucrose, gelatin, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, citric acid, (R,S)-hydroxysuccinic acid, sodium cyclamate, maltodextrin, saccharin sodium and lemon flavor.
