Area of application

Symbioflor 2 is a bacterial preparation that improves the immune system in the intestinal tract.It is used to regulate the body's defenses and for disorders of gastrointestinal function, especially irritable bowel syndrome (irritable colon).If the pain persists for a long time or is more severe, or if the course of therapy is unsatisfactory, a doctor should be consulted.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

Escherichia coli, the active ingredient in Symbioflor 2, is a live bacteria that occurs in the healthy intestinal flora of humans.It stabilizes the balance of the intestinal flora and thereby improves the immune system.

1 ml (= 14 drops) Symbioflor 2 contains bacterial concentrate with Escherichia coli bacteria (DSM 17252, cells and autolysate) corresponding to 1.5 - 4.5×10^7 living cells.The other ingredients are sodium chloride, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride dihydrate, magnesium chloride hexahydrate and purified water.

Contraindications

Symbioflor 2 must not be taken if you are allergic to the bacterial concentrate containing Escherichia coli bacteria or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The product should also not be used in cases of acute inflammation of the gallbladder, pancreas or intestinal obstruction.Symbioflor 2 should be temporarily discontinued during acute febrile illnesses.This product should not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients or during feverish illnesses.

Dosage

Recommended use of Symbioflor 2: At the start of treatment, adults take 10 drops three times a day during meals.After a week, the dose is increased to 20 drops three times a day.If gastrointestinal symptoms such as flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal pain or discomfort worsen or occur more frequently at the start of treatment, Symbioflor 2 should be taken diluted in water or in a smaller amount, or the number of drops should be increased more slowly.The recommended duration of use is 8 weeks.If symptoms worsen during treatment or persist after 8 weeks of treatment, seek medical attention.Children and adolescents should not use Symbioflor 2 as its safety and effectiveness have not yet been established.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Symbioflor 2 should only be used after a careful risk-benefit assessment by the doctor.

Notes

After first opening, Symbioflor 2 has a shelf life of at least 3 weeks.Storage of Symbioflor 2: Do not store above +30°C before opening.Do not freeze.Close the bottle tightly immediately after use and store in the refrigerator (2°C - 8°C).For information about risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Side effects

Symbioflor 2 is generally well tolerated.However, the following side effects may occur: Occasionally, flatulence, upper abdominal discomfort, nausea and diarrhea.Very rarely, hives, rash and painful, persistent swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (angioedema) may occur.If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
