Area of application

Movicol oral sachet is a laxative for the treatment of acute and chronic constipation in adults, adolescents aged 12 years and over and older patients.The product helps to ensure comfortable bowel movements, even with long-term constipation problems.No prescription is required for this product.

Each 13.8 g sachet of Movicol contains the following active ingredients: 13.125 g macrogol 3350, 0.3507 g sodium chloride, 0.1785 g sodium bicarbonate and 0.0466 g potassium chloride.Movicol also contains lemon/lime flavor and acesulfame potassium as a sweetener.The lemon/lime flavor consists of gum arabic, maltodextrin, lime oil, lemon oil, citral, citric acid and water.

Contraindications

Movicol must not be taken if you have intestinal narrowing or obstruction, risk of intestinal perforation, severe inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or toxic megacolon, or if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredients or other components of the preparation.

Dosage

The usual dose is 1 sachet 1 to 3 times daily depending on the severity of the constipation.The treatment usually lasts about 2 weeks.If you use it for a long time or if you have specific illnesses, you should speak to a doctor.Overdose may cause diarrhea.In this case, the intake should be stopped and continued with a lower dose.

Intake

Movicol can be taken at any time, regardless of meals.The contents of one sachet are dissolved in 125 ml of water and drunk slowly.The solution should be clear or slightly cloudy.

Movicol does not affect the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

There are no data on excretion into breast milk.Pregnant or breastfeeding women should speak to their doctor before taking it.

Notes

If there is evidence of a shift in fluid and salt balance, the intake should be stopped immediately and laboratory tests carried out.

Movicol contains 186.87 mg of sodium per sachet, which is 9.3% of the recommended maximum daily sodium intake for adults.If you take more than 3 sachets a day for a long time, especially if you are on a low-salt diet, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.
