What is MOVICOL® and how does it work?

MOVICOL® is a well-tolerated and fast-acting laxative for the treatment of acute and chronic constipation in adults and children aged 12 and over.The product is available as a powder in sachets that can be used to make a drinkable solution with a fresh lemon and lime flavor.No prescription is required for this product.

Ingredients of MOVICOL® lemon/lime 13.8 g powder each (1 bag): 13.125 g macrogol 3350, 0.35 g sodium chloride, 0.18 g sodium bicarbonate, 0.05 g potassium chloride, 65 mmol/l sodium ion, 5.4 mmol/l potassium ion (incl. acesulfame potassium), 53 mmol/lChloride, 17 mmol/l hydrogen carbonate ion.Other ingredients include acesulfame potassium and lemon/lime flavor.

Contraindications

MOVICOL® Lemon/Lime must not be used in the event of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients, structural or functional disorders of the intestinal wall, intestinal obstruction or severe inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and toxic megacolon.Use in children under 12 years is not recommended.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over can take one sachet of MOVICOL® lemon/lime 1-3 times daily, depending on the severity of the constipation.For long-term use, the dose can be reduced to 1 or 2 times a day.

Intake

To prepare the solution, place the contents of one sachet in a glass and mix with about 125 ml of water until the powder is completely dissolved.The solution can then be drunk. MOVICOL® Lemon/Lime can be taken at any time and regardless of food intake.If the packaging is damaged, the product should not be consumed.

Patient information

Treatment for chronic constipation should normally not exceed 2 weeks.However, if necessary, MOVICOL® Lemon/Lime can be used repeatedly.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, MOVICOL® Lemon/Lime should only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

To avoid an overdose, the recommended or doctor-prescribed total dose should not be exceeded.If you have chronic or severe constipation, you should always contact a doctor, as this can cause secondary illnesses including intestinal obstruction.

MOVICOL® is a generally well-tolerated product.However, like all medicines, it can cause side effects that not everyone gets.
