Calcivit D Forte is a mineral preparation that contains calcium and vitamin D3 (colecalciferol).It is used to compensate for a simultaneous deficiency of calcium and vitamin D in the elderly and to support specific osteoporosis therapy in patients with proven or high risk of such deficiency.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredients in Calcivit D Forte are calcium carbonate and colecalciferol.Each effervescent tablet contains 1,000 mg calcium, equivalent to 2,500 mg calcium carbonate, and 8.8 mg colecalciferol dry concentrate, equivalent to 880 IU vitamin D3.The other ingredients include all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, citric acid, dimeticone, gelatin, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate (vegetable), corn starch, methyl cellulose, sodium cyclamate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, povidone K 25, saccharin sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, hydrogenated soybean oil (Ph.Eur.), sucroseand flavorings (orange).

Areas of application

Calcivit D Forte is used to support specific osteoporosis treatment in patients with proven or high risk of simultaneous calcium and vitamin D deficiency and to compensate for simultaneous calcium and vitamin D deficiency in older people.

Dosage and application

The recommended dose is 1,000 mg calcium and 880 IU vitamin D daily, corresponding to 1 effervescent tablet once daily.The effervescent tablet is dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately.The duration of treatment must be decided individually and should be done in consultation with a doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Calcivit D Forte must not be taken if you are allergic to calcium carbonate, colecalciferol, soy, peanut or any of the other ingredients of the medicine.The medicine should also not be used if calcium concentrations in the blood or urine are too high, if there are calcium-containing kidney stones or calcification of the kidneys, if the kidney function is impaired and if limbs are immobilized for a long time (immobilization).

Side effects

Possible side effects of Calcivit D Forte may include increased calcium blood levels (hypercalcemia), increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria), hypersensitivity reactions, itching, rash, hives, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.Systemic allergic reactions can occur very rarely.

Warnings and precautions

During long-term treatment with Calcivit D Forte, the calcium level in the blood and kidney function should be monitored regularly.This is particularly important in older patients and during simultaneous treatment with certain drugs that increase heart strength (cardiac glycosides) or water-inducing drugs (diuretics).If hypercalcemia occurs or signs of renal impairment occur, the dose must be reduced or the intake of Calcivit D Forte must be stopped.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, Calcivit D Forte should only be taken according to strict indications and only in the dosage that is absolutely necessary to correct the deficiency.Overdoses of vitamin D during pregnancy must be prevented, as long-term hypercalcemia can lead to physical and mental disability as well as congenital heart and eye diseases in the child.During breastfeeding, the medicine should only be taken if there is a deficiency.

Storage

Keep Calcivit D Forte out of the reach of children and do not store it above 25°C.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the outer carton and container.After opening, the medicine can be used for 1 month.Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater.Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicine when you no longer use it.
