Instructions for use of Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup

Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup contains the active ingredient lactulose and is used to treat constipation that cannot be relieved by a high-fiber diet and other measures.It is also used for diseases that require easier bowel movements and for the prevention and treatment of portocaval encephalopathy, a disorder of brain function due to chronic liver disease.

Mode of action

Lactulose is broken down by the bacteria in the large intestine and changes the acid-base balance.This stimulates the intestinal wall to move more, which makes it easier for the intestinal contents to be removed.In addition, the high concentration of the broken down components draws water into the intestine, which softens the intestinal contents and increases in volume.This triggers a reflex to empty the bowels.In addition, lactulose lowers the ammonia concentration in the blood by preventing the reabsorption of ammonia from the intestine into the bloodstream.

Areas of application

Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup is used for constipation, which cannot be sufficiently influenced by a high-fiber diet and other measures.It is also useful for conditions that require easier bowel movements, such as hemorrhoids or rectal surgery.It is also used to prevent and treat portocaval encephalopathy, a disorder of brain function caused by chronic liver disease.

Composition

The syrup contains the active ingredient lactulose as well as the excipients lactose, galactose, epilactose, fructose and purified water.

Dosage and application

The dosage of Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup depends on the area of application.For constipation and to ease bowel movements, the recommended dose for adults is 7.5-15 ml, equivalent to 5-10 g of lactulose, 1-2 times a day.Children should take 4.5-9 ml, equivalent to 3-6 g of lactulose, 1-2 times a day.The use of laxatives in children should only be done in exceptional cases and under medical supervision.

For portocaval encephalopathy, treatment should start with 7.5-15 ml 3-4 times daily and slowly increase to 30-45 ml 3-4 times daily to achieve 2-3 loose stools daily.There are no data on the treatment of portocaval encephalopathy for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

The syrup can be taken undiluted or diluted with water, coffee, tea, yogurt, muesli or porridge.It can be taken regardless of meals.It is recommended to take the same time of day.

Duration of application

The duration of treatment depends on the development of the respective clinical picture.If there is no improvement after a few days, please inform your doctor.

Storage

Keep Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup out of the reach of children and do not store it above 25 °C.The container should be kept tightly closed.Once the pack is opened, the syrup will last for 12 months if stored properly, up to a maximum of the expiry date printed on it.

Side effects

Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and flatulence, as well as salt balance disorders.If you feel unwell or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the ingredients or have intestinal obstruction.If you have inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases, fluid and salt balance disorders or sugar absorption disorders, use should be discussed with a doctor or pharmacist.Infants and small children under 2 years of age should only use the medicine after consulting a doctor or under medical supervision.

Important notes
