Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup contains the active ingredient lactulose and is a laxative.It is used for constipation, which cannot be sufficiently controlled by a diet rich in fiber and other general measures.It can also be used for diseases that require easier bowel movements and for the prevention and treatment of portocaval encephalopathy.This disease affects brain function and can be caused by chronic liver disease, which can lead to impaired thinking, tremors and reduced consciousness, including coma.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The syrup contains 66.7 g of lactulose per 100 ml. The following excipients are also included: epilactose, fructose, galactose, lactose and purified water.The total carbohydrate content is 16.7 g per 100 ml.

Areas of application

Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup is used for constipation, which cannot be adequately controlled by a diet rich in fiber and other general measures.It can also be used for conditions that require easier bowel movements, such as hemorrhoids or rectal or anal surgery.It is also used to prevent and treat portocaval encephalopathy, a disorder of brain function resulting from chronic liver disease.

Dosage and application

The dosage of Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup depends on the area of application.For constipation and to ease bowel movements, the recommended dose for adults is 7.5-15 ml (equivalent to 5-10 g of lactulose) 1-2 times a day.Children should take 4.5-9 ml (equivalent to 3-6 g lactulose) 1-2 times a day.The use of laxatives in children should only be done in exceptional cases and under medical supervision.

For portocaval encephalopathy, adults should take 7.5-15 ml (equivalent to 5-10 g of lactulose) 3-4 times a day at the start of treatment.The dose can then be slowly increased to 30-45 ml (corresponding to 20-30 g lactulose) 3-4 times daily in order to achieve 2-3 soft stools daily.

It can be taken regardless of meals.The syrup can be taken undiluted or with water, warm drinks such as coffee or tea, as well as in yogurt, muesli or porridge.If taken undiluted, the syrup should be swallowed directly and not kept in the mouth for any longer.

Duration of application

The duration of treatment depends on the development of the respective clinical picture.If after a few days there is no improvement or if the symptoms worsen, please inform your doctor.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Lactulose 1A Pharma is too strong or too weak.

Storage

Keep Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup out of the reach of children.The medicine must not be used after the expiry date stated on the label and carton.Do not store the syrup above 25°C and keep the container tightly closed.Once the pack is opened, the syrup will last for 12 months if stored properly, up to a maximum of the expiry date printed on it.

Side effects

Possible side effects of Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup may include gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and flatulence.In rare cases, salt balance disorders can occur.If you notice any discomfort or change during treatment, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Contraindications

Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to lactulose or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.The medicine should also not be used if you have an intestinal obstruction or acute inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.If fluid and salt balance or sugar absorption are impaired, the medicine should only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.Infants and small children under 2 years of age may only use the medicine after consulting a doctor or under medical supervision.

Important notes

Only use laxative medicines for a short time without a doctor's recommendation.Long-term use can lead to chronic constipation and other problems.If there is no success after short-term use, contact your doctor or pharmacist.Laxatives are not suitable for weight loss.Caution is advised if you are intolerance to fructose, galactose or lactose. If you have to follow a diabetes diet, you should consider the sugar content.There may be medicines with which interactions occur.Therefore, before starting treatment with a new medicine, tell your doctor or pharmacist any other medicine you are already using.
