Lactulose 1A Pharma is a laxative that contains the active ingredient lactulose.It is used for constipation that cannot be adequately controlled by a high-fiber diet and other general measures, as well as for diseases that require easier bowel movements.It is also used to prevent and treat portocaval encephalopathy, a disorder of brain function resulting from chronic liver disease.

The active ingredient lactulose is broken down by the bacteria found in the large intestine and changes the acid-base balance there.This stimulates the intestinal wall to move more, making it easier for the intestinal contents to be removed.In addition, the high concentration of broken down components draws water into the intestines, which softens the intestinal contents and makes them more voluminous.This triggers a reflex to empty the bowels.In addition, lactulose lowers the ammonia concentration in the blood by preventing the reabsorption of ammonia from the intestine into the bloodstream.

Ingredients

Lactulose 1A Pharma Syrup contains the following ingredients: lactulose as the active ingredient and the excipients lactose, galactose, epilactose, fructose and purified water.The syrup has a concentration of 66.7 g lactulose per 100 ml.

Areas of application

Lactulose 1A Pharma is used for constipation that cannot be adequately controlled by a diet rich in fiber and other general measures.It is also suitable for diseases that require easier bowel movements, such as hemorrhoids or operations in the rectal or anal area.It is also used to prevent and treat portocaval encephalopathy, a disorder of brain function resulting from chronic liver disease.

Dosage and application

The dosage of Lactulose 1A Pharma depends on the area of application and should always be taken exactly as directed.For constipation and to ease bowel movements, the recommended dose for adults is 7.5-15 ml (equivalent to 5-10 g of lactulose) 1-2 times a day.For children, the dosage is 4.5-9 ml (corresponding to 3-6 g lactulose) 1-2 times a day.

For portocaval encephalopathy, treatment should be started with 7.5-15 ml 3-4 times daily and slowly increased to 30-45 ml 3-4 times daily to achieve 2-3 loose stools daily.It can be taken independently of meals and should always take place at the same time of day.

Lactulose 1A Pharma can be taken undiluted or diluted with water or mixed with warm drinks, yoghurt, cereal or porridge.If taken undiluted, the syrup should be swallowed directly and not kept in the mouth for any longer.

Duration of application

The duration of treatment depends on the development of the respective clinical picture.If after a few days there is no improvement or if the symptoms worsen, please inform your doctor.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Lactulose 1A Pharma is too strong or too weak.

Storage

Keep Lactulose 1A Pharma out of the reach of children and do not store it above 25 °C.The container should be kept tightly closed.Once the pack is opened, the syrup will last for 12 months if stored properly, up to a maximum of the expiry date printed on it.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

According to current knowledge, Lactulose 1A Pharma has no harmful effects on child development or birth.There is also no evidence that the medicine should not be used during breastfeeding.
