Instructions for use for Braunol mucous membrane antiseptic

Braunol is a 7.5% solution for use on the skin and contains the active ingredient povidone-iodine.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Braunol is used as an antiseptic for disinfection and antimicrobial treatment.It is suitable for single use to disinfect the intact external skin or mucous membrane, for example before operations, biopsies, injections, punctures, blood samples and bladder catheterizations.It can also be used for repeated, time-limited use in antiseptic wound treatment, burns, infected skin diseases and for hygienic and surgical hand disinfection.

Important information on application

Braunol must not be used if you are allergic to povidone-iodine or any of the other ingredients, suffer from hyperthyroidism or another thyroid disease, suffer from the chronic skin inflammation dermatitis herpetiformis Duhring, have had radiotherapy of the thyroid gland with iodine planned or carried out, or if you are a very small premature baby with a birth weight of less than 1500 g.

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Braunol, especially if you have a goiter or are suffering from thyroid disease.Regular use of Braunol should be avoided if lithium therapy is used at the same time.

Application of Braunol

Apply Braunol undiluted to the area to be treated and keep the skin moist.The exposure time varies depending on skin type and area of application.For hand disinfection, 3 ml is sufficient for hygienic disinfection and 2 x 5 ml for surgical disinfection.Braunol can be used undiluted or diluted for wound treatment.The frequency and duration of use depends on the indication.

Side effects

Braunol can cause side effects such as skin hypersensitivity reactions, acute immune system reactions, local burning, hyperthyroidism and electrolyte imbalances.If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Storage

Keep Braunol out of the reach of children and do not store it above 25°C.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the label or if you notice extensive discoloration of the solution.

Contents of the pack

Braunol contains the active ingredient povidone iodine and the other ingredients sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium iodate, macrogol lauryl ether 9 EO, sodium hydroxide and purified water.It is available as a brown solution in various containers.
