The active ingredient in folic acid Lomapharm 5 mg is folic acid.Each tablet contains 5 mg of folic acid.The preparation also contains the excipients lactose monohydrate, talc, cellulose powder, highly disperse silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate.

Contraindications

Folic acid Lomapharm 5 mg must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to folic acid or any of the other ingredients of the drug.The increase in young red blood cells (reticulocytes) caused by folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency.Before treating anemia due to impaired red blood cell development (megaloblastic anemia), it must be ensured that it is not due to a vitamin B12 deficiency.The cause of megaloblastic anemia must be clarified before therapy begins.

Dosage

Always take folic acid Lomapharm 5 mg exactly as your doctor has told you.Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is 1 to 3 tablets per day, corresponding to 5 to 15 mg of folic acid, depending on your needs.The tablets are taken whole with meals with a little liquid.The duration of treatment depends on the extent of the folic acid deficiency and is determined by the doctor for each patient.

Take special care when taking folic acid Lomapharm 5 mg if you suffer from megaloblastic anemia.In this case, too, a possible vitamin B12 deficiency must be ruled out before starting therapy.There is no sufficient experience with the use of a daily dose of more than 5 mg folic acid during pregnancy, therefore the maximum daily dose of 5 mg folic acid should not be exceeded.
